UPDATE: Brian Kelly announced on Monday evening that Michael Floyd has been suspended indefinitely

Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd has only improved as his career has progressed, which is why Irish fans were thrilled to hear the star announce that he would return for his senior season.  Unfortunately, his decision making has not undergone the same improvements.

WDNC in South Bend is reporting that Floyd was arrested early Sunday on a DUI charge, just 15 months after being cited for underage drinking in January 2010.  Floyd was reportedly arrested by Notre Dame police around 4 a.m. then released later after posting bond.

Floyd had the best season of his career in 2010, pulling in 79 receptions and totaling 1,025 yards to go along with 12 touchdowns. The Irish had a less than stable quarterback situation last season, but it did not matter for Floyd who now sits second all-time in career receptions. Currently with 171 catches on his career, it is assumed that floyd will catch Jeff Smardzija (179) in the 2011 season.

Brian Kelly, nor Notre Dame has made an official statement on the issue. Stay tuned to CBSSports.com for more as this develops.

And everyone used to complain about UM?? Catholics vs. Convicts? Looks like the shoe is on the other foot now. Notre Dame has no control of all their hoodlums! They should follow UM's example of well-behaved student-athletes.

Report: Michael Floyd arrested for DUI

Good post phoggy,

As a Michigan alum my comments can hardly be viewed as non-biased but I if the charges hold up I think his dismissal from the team is appropriate.  Although I am reluctant to have the NCAA more involved in policing programs, I think some kind of standard penalty to this type of infraction needs to be established.

I too share your frustration with the majority of the posts on these boards.  Unfortunately, those whose opinions are valued are being paid to give them elsewhere in society.

thank you phoggydogg... to add to your statements, grown men get arrested for DWIs all the time.  Misjudgments in ones ability will happen to us all and before you start expecting the impossible for individuals that you pay money to see play a game, get your own "house" in order.  You can really only expect from others the greatness that you yourself are capable of.
