Ex-Michigan CB Christian transferring to Pitt

Apparently the Ann Arbor-to-Pittsburgh exodus isn't just for coaches.

Earlier this year, new Pitt coach Todd Graham took full advantage of Rich Rodriguez's dismissal to hire away three different former Wolverine assistants. It's a decision that's already paying dividends where the Panthers' roster is concerned, according to this report at Scout.com; thanks in part to his familiarity with new defensive backs coach Tony Gibson, former four-star recruit and 2010 Michigan cornerback Cullen Christian has elected to transfer to Pitt.

For the Panthers, it's a welcome addition to a 2012 secondary that finished 19th in the country in pass defense a year ago but has its work cut out for it under Graham, thanks both to the Panthers' new defense-straining no-huddle offense and a 2011 two-deep that could feature as many as four seniors. Christian (like virtually every member of Michigan's 2010 pass defense) didn't do much to stand out as a true freshman in Ann Arbor, but did see action in 11 games and recorded six tackles.

A Pittsburgh native, Christian's return home and ability to continue working under his original position coach could see him fulfill the potential that made him one of Pennsylvania's most sought-after prospects in the class of 2010.

But where Michigan is concerned, it's yet another blow to a secondary that's already sustained a decade's worth of blows the past few seasons. The Wolverine pass defense was already in tatters last August, and that was before Troy Woolfolk missed a season with a serious ankle injury, Vlad Emilien left the team, Jared Van Slyke broke his clavicle, Ray Vinopal left the team ... you get the picture. Christian's decision not only deprives Brady Hoke of a much-needed scholarship body at corner, but of the highest-ranked recruit remaining in the entire secondary.

It's not a pretty picture for the Wolverine pass defense. But don't expect an unproven, first-year staff like Graham's to have much sympathy.

Can the drama, Christian left to see the field

PLEASE...the drama in this article is unreal.

The reason why Christian transferred is that he was way down on the depth-chart.  Christian hardly played during the spring game, and saw some time on the field last year (but who didn't in Michigan's secondary), but he was being burned by Big Ten receivers (not exactly the lightning fast receivers that you find in the SEC either), nearly cost Michigan a win vs. Notre Dame with a pretty dumb late hit. He's young, but PITT fans don't expect much.  Vinopal was a much better transfer, he's smart, is always in the right place to make a hit, and provided some stability at safety for Michigan last year.

Besides, this article did forget to mention that Michigan has two 4 star CBs (including one of the top CB recruits in the country, Blake Countess) coming in this fall.

I must admit I can understand all the fustration from Michigan fans.  Their team has been headed straight downhill for years now, and their certainly is not much hope for this season.  The fact is that Michigan has not been good for years now.  Going back to 2000, they are 1-6 against the Pac 12, 0-3 in Rose Bowl appearances, and 2-9 (0-7) against Ohio State.  If it were not for the fact that they play such a soft non-con schedule, they would finish below .500 this season again.  It's about time that Michigan fans realize that their football program is just an average program in an average conference.  It has been nothing more for years, and will be nothing more for years to come.  Boo Hoo Big Blue.

Well Mustbegood.....you really put me in my place. I cant decide if it was the quality win vs Army or Utah that was more impressive in your last four games "proof" of excellence. Funny you didn't go back 5 games when Nuetered Dames lost to Tulsa. Here is a little video for you and all of the irish fans until our game this upcoming season. Enjoy! Go Blue!

What has your team done in the past 3 years to justify this feeling of overwhelming superiority?
Let's look at the last four games of Michigan's season, and look at the last four of Notre Dame's.  Notice anything?  Only one W for Michigan, while the Irish won all four.  Mississippi State destroyed D-Rob, and showed that the Michigan defence is not even worth the paper to draw up a game plan.

I'm sure the next Michigan poster will say something about loosing RR, and he was a lame duck.  Comical.

Besides, with "You Raise Me Up" as your new fight song, the Wolverines are certainly a scary bunch.  Cry

Does Notre Dame even still have a football team??  Oh, that's right we beat them last year and the year before that!!!  Even at our lowest level in decades,  we still trounced ND.  What kind of an idiot would bring that up???

Nd couldnt handle the schedule they had let alone beating Michigan. Under the Hoak regime they will all become champs. We have lost very few and the way that defense is improving i expect at least an 8-4 season if not better...GO BLUE

Feel sorry all you want......Big Blue has still beaten you in the past two years. Delusional Irish fans always make me smile. What has your team done in the past 3 years to justify this feeling of overwhelming superiority? ND's schedule has been softened to embarassing levels and you still cant crack the BCS. I am not saying Michigan isn't without its problems but I feel the Hoke hir is a step in the right direction. A coach that understands defense is also played. Those who stay will become champions.

It's beginning to look like that September 10th game in the Big House will be like shooting fish in a barrel for the Irish.  Even if Floyd is unavailable due to his stupidity, the plethora of Irish receivers will make T-Wolf (a.k.a T-Puppy) and the remaining Michigan defense look like they missed the school bus.  I really feel sorry for Brady Hoke Laughing
