Less than a month ago, the college football world was rocked when N.C. State announced that quarterback Russell Wilson requested, and was granted, a release from his scholarship with the Wolfpack. Head coach Tom O'Brien wished Wilson the best, but insisted that his starting quarterback for 2011 was junior Mike Glennon. Wilson has one year of football eligibility remaining, and has quietly begun looking into potential relocation destinations.

According to ESPN's Joe Schad, Wilson will be visiting Auburn today. He has an off-day from his current post as second baseman of the Asheville Tourists, part of the Colorado Rockies organization. His commitment to the Rockies and his potential football availability are both unknown at this point in the process. The Rockies believe that he will finish the season with the Tourists, which lasts until Sept. 5. Other reports have stated that there is as much as a "95 percent chance" Wilson will be playing football on-time in the fall.

If Wilson, an all-conference caliber quarterback, joins the Tigers he will step right into the same system that highlighted the skills of 2010's Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton. According to Schad's report, Wilson arrived at Auburn Monday night and will spend all day with the coaches. Offensive coordinator Gus Mahlzan would be able to plug in Wilson to his high-octane system and let the experienced signal-caller make plays down the field. Head coach Gene Chizik has made no comment on the issue.

i think it would be a great fit for Wilson as well as AU. AU will be plugging the same calibre QB in a potent offense just like last year. a big, athletic, smart QB with a good arm and knows how to read at the line and adjust the play if needed. also, just as Newton, Wilson will have a great running game to keep the defense from sitting on him and ignoring the run game. also, he has an above average receiving core to help move along the passing game. in my opinion, its a win win. only question for me is how will the offensive line do?

Russell Wilson is more than a half decent baseball player.  He can't play for Auburn because he has already signed a professional contract with the Rockies and is playing single A ball now.

I'm not so sure about Auburn being the right choice. If his dream is baseball sure he may have a chance because he would have a chance at making Auburns team if he's half decent. And Auburn is good but not great I saw them play two times aginst my Trojans this year. We split the series but they had the benefit of getting us on the road after a big conference series during the first loss.

But Auburn still ranked in the top 30 in the RPI I think? So It could be a great deal for him to play football and baseball.

However, he needs to be serious this year is his last shot. He has the oppurtunity to graduate and a great academic school like UCLA who has QB issues. If he plays like he did at NC state he has a NFL future. I have never seen him play baseball but being decent at football is usually the better career.

Er  I'm not saying the ACC does NOT produce good NFL players....  ACC has their NFL stars like any conference.

Come on now.... if you want to start throwing some facts down.... make sure they are TRUE/CORRECT facts.

Rivers success rest purely on whether he has an amazing RB to pick up the slack.

Vick wasn't officially playing in the ACC when he graduated from VT.  He was drafted in 2001.... VT wasn't even a PART of the ACC until 2004.

I'm not saying ACC produces good NFL players... Every conference does.... but as a whole.  The ACC for a LONG time has always been a 1-2 top heavy conference in football.

Some posters here have implied R.Wilson has gotten his great stats by playing in the weak A.C.C I would point out the A.C.C. while not has great as the SEC still produces some very good NFL players Micheal Vick, Super Bowl star Raji, Phillip Rivers Holt to name a few.
A few A.C.C. facts
second only to the SEC in active NFL players
second only to SEC in top ten picks
top 20 picks ACC 49 SEC 43
My point is R. Wilson can play at a top level he is a outstanding play maker and he is above all a very good person the kind of player that will do great where ever he goes.
