The Ohio State football community was rocked early Monday with the news of Jim Tressel's resignation as the head football coach. This may end up being a Memorial Day that Buckeyes fans would rather forget, particularly if star quarterback Terrelle Pryor ends up receiving further punishment for receiving impermissible benefits.

Trouble at OSU

The Columbus Dispatch reported Monday afternoon that the NCAA and Ohio State are conducting an independent investigation of Terrelle Pryor, according to sources close to the situation. The school would not confirm whether Pryor is being investigated, but sources informed the Dispatch that this is the "most significant inquiry to date." Pryor has been questioned by OSU compliance officials before, but after seeing Tressel's tale come to a screeching halt there is plenty of reason for concern in Pryor's case.

Pryor has already been suspended for the first five games of the 2011 season for selling or exchanging memorabilia for cash and tattoos, so it is hard to imagine any good ending to further investigation. Since that December suspension, more details have emerged that tie Pryor to different automobiles and signed uniforms.

With all the buzz around Pryor, particularly with rumors of more Ohio State related information to be released in the coming days, it is not unlikely to imagine that Pryor may have played his final game in a Buckeyes uniform.

Report: Significant NCAA investigation of Pryor

I think it is an understatement to say that "this can't end well for pryor and the school". It isn't that he just covered up what happened with Pryor and the other teammates, but, the fact that he lied about it. He might still be the coach if he had reported this like he knew he had to. He said he was protecting the "student- athletes". They were knowingly used in games after that, especially the bowl game, and Tressel thought all was right with the world. He couldn't be more wrong! He is paying the price now, and any further penalties imposed by the NCAA on him will follow to whatever school that may hire him. Besides that, theOSU will be given sanctions by the NCAA that could cripple them for years to come. Mr. Pryor has almost certainly played his last game as a college athlete and with the NFL now on strike, he may not have many options to play in the pros this year.

Report: Significant NCAA investigation of Pryor

Wow it started already. I was expecting this to take a couple of days. Like I said in an earlier post somewhere this is the tip of the iceberg. Not sure how many years they can go back but Clarret was getting paid big time and they were probably offering him 10's of thousands to stay for his sophomore year. Not sure if the evidence has been completely covered up by now but when this is all said and done there will be more allegations and more things that turn up. The vest was just a cover. Love the people defending him as a players coach. He obviously wanted to win and was willing to do whatever that took. Even if that meant showing young men he was molding that it's OK to lie and cheat your way through life to get what you want.

@TheSteelBuckeye

Read the SI article posted tonight. Tressel is a crook and the whole program is rotten to the core. OSU is going to get slapped down in a huge way. Maybe your school can schedule a "bowl" with USC next year, lol.

The problem with Tressell is that this is the second time he tried to cover up a player receiving benefits.  Pryor I think has played his last college game and I think he will get a year or two in the NFL but I dont think he will last cause his accuracy is not that good.  But who knows maybe one of these NFL (if there is an NFL next year) can improve his accuracy

Pure and simple the loss of Jim Tressell from the OSU football program will hurt beyond the football field.  Here is to Luke Fickell hopefully he has a very successful season this year and can take the head coaching job.

All of these trolling comments literally accomplish nothing. Tressel is a good coach. He screwed up. He tried to cover for his players because he's a player's coach. Now the whole program is going up in flames. That's the reality of it. It happened, OSU will get screwed for it. And the world will continue turning. It shouldn't matter where your alleigance is. Mine happens to be for Ohio State because I go here. Do I like Michigan? No. Do I wish this would happen to them? No. At the end of the day I just want to watch some football. Let's keep it in perspective people, because all of these demeaning comments just make you look stupid; yes, you too OSU fans.
