If you missed it this weekend, USC running back Marc Tyler popped up on TMZ last week and made some comments that were bound to get him in trouble. Specifically he joked that USC pays its players, saying that Trojans make more money in school than they do in the pros. Well, in a move that should shock no one, Tyler has now been suspended by the Trojans for at least the season opener.

"I was very disappointed when I learned of Marc Tyler's inappropriate comments that were captured by the media last week," said Lane Kiffin in a statement. "That is not the way that we expect our players to represent USC and our team.

"I have consulted with athletic director Pat Haden and I am suspending Marc for our upcoming season opener and potentially further, and in the meantime I am also suspending him from all team activities.

"Although Marc may find this punishment severe, it is imperative we continue to have a high standard for player behavior.  Marc needs to work hard to show us that he can meet the standards of being a USC football player."

Tyler released a statement as well.

"I want to apologize for embarrassing USC, my teammates and coaches," said Tyler. "I am disappointed that I let down all the people who have supported me as I have been working through some personal issues.  After meeting today with Mr. Haden and Coach Kiffin, I realize how my behavior and my statements, even though I was joking, can reflect poorly on so many people.  As a veteran player, I should know that my job is to be an example for the younger guys.  I accept my punishment and I regret that I will miss the opening game of my senior year.   I am committed to doing everything the right way so that I can be reinstated to the team."

USC opens the season against Minnesota on September 3rd.

Not Wisconsin, our guys just get arrested for other violent offenses.........  No, seriously, I hope they are doing nothing like that in Madison.  Big expectations this year.  As always, it matters when you lose, not how.

OK I am serious here, what does Lane Kiffin and Pete Carrol have to do with what came out Tylers mouth? Did Tyler say they paid him? No.
Second how many times can you use the same joke "is he suspended with or without pay", haha it may have been funny the first time but 100 times later it is getting old.

While I think the suspension is just and Tyler's admission admirable, it's another circumstance where better judgement has to be at the forefront of a young athletes mind.  Even Tyler's parents support USC's decision making process which is the stand-up thing to do.  Even though his comments were said in jest, we all know that, it was a situation that put him in hot water.  To all young athletes, my advice is this:  when in doubt, don't.

Say what you will.. Jump to USC's defense that they dont pay players, but the truth is that EVERY major school in the country pays, maybe not directly.. but they all pay.  USC, Alabama, Miami, FSU, OhioSt, PennSt, Mich, Florida, Oregon, Okl, Texas.. ALL OF THEM.

Remember the interview Jalen Rose did w Steve Fischer (Rose pretending to be reporter), well.. at the end of the interview.. Rose said, "How bout $100 for that great interview".. to that, Fischer blushed and responded that we better turn that camera off.  If that dosent say it all, I'm not sure what does.. And yes, when I was in college (a prominent football & basketball school) in the late 80s/early 90s there were plenty of Bball and football players drving cars that were, lets say, well beyond their means.

USC suspends Marc Tyler for at least one game

Oh, so I get it now hardkohrbgsu when Marc Tyler said "U$C, they breaking bread" (His answer) He was actualy talking about stipend for food.

Now it makes sense because when he said bread I thought he was really talking about 'lettuce', 'dough', 'plum', 'cabbage', 'macaroni', 'popy', 'biscuit', 'garden', 'cock n hen', 'french loaf' or 'squid' not stipends for food.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Kinda harsh in my opinion. It was a joke for gods sake. I hate how the society we live in takes things so seriously.

And come on people. You mean you really believe this kid? He was only saying it to get attention just like most kids do. He probably had nothing interesting to say to TMZ so he made something up that he thought would be funny. Thats it.

It was a true statement though.  The question was phrased do players at USC make more the NFL players RIGHT NOW.  Scholarship athletes at all schools receive small stipends for food and stuff like that and right now nobody in the NFL is getting paid for playing football at all.  So he is basically getting suspended for answering a question posed to him correctly.
