Stephen Garcia could be reinstated next week

South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia has been suspended since April following an alcohol-fueled outburst at a life skills seminar, which was just the latest suspension for Garcia since he came to the school. With camp starting next week for the Gamecocks, though, it's not exactly a huge surprise to hear that Garcia could be reinstated to the team as soon as Monday.

Steve Spurrier said as much during a press conference on Thursday.

"Stephen Garcia has changed his lifestyle almost completely," Spurrier told the Post and Courier. "He's been on time, no goofing around. He's being very serious. He's showing a commitment we've never seen before.

"Now, hopefully that will continue. I expect it to continue."

As we've already gone over here on the blog, Garcia's presence for the Gamecocks this season is vital, as they're going to win the national championship.

Garcia's suspension wasn't the only one Spurrier addressed on Thursday, either. Quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus was suspended indefinitely earlier this week after he was arrested for urinating in public, and Spurrier said he could be reinstated in time for the start of camp on Wednesday.

So let's hope for a dry weekend in Columbia.

I have seen comments on Spurrier that range from Benevolent soul to Win at all costs. My opinion is if he has been suspended more than twice then the latter seems to be the case. Young men make bad decisions in life all the time, but to allow it to continue through four or five supensions and not take drastic(spelled kicking off the team for good) measures is a disservice not only to the others who have to obey the rules, but to the player himself as he thinks he is above the law. Time Spurrier grew a pair and worked with what he has and not rely on a problem child who clearly does not respect the uniform, school, team or coach. Man up Spurrier and play the players on the roster who have earned a spot by obeying all the rules.

I am starting to question whether or not discipline really means anything to Steve Spurrier. Once, ok. Twice, depends-but likely not. Three times, hit the road, no questions asked! The only reason Carolina made it as far as they did last season was because the East absolutely sucked...

Don't mean to be a hater, but I have simply disliked the guy (Spurrier) since he allows repeat...repeat...repeat...repeat..

.offenders to stay with his program.

Last chance

Garcia is lucky Spurrier doesn't really have someone to replace him right now.  If he gets his life together, Spurrier will look like a genius and a benevolent soul.  If he doesn't, Spurrier will look like a "win at all costs" coach.  Since I like redemption stories, I hope Garcia finally "gets it together," gets his degree, and either quits drinking or figures out a way to keep it on the Bell Curve.

The "Ole Ball Coach" has one hope of winning the SEC East and thats with Drunk Boy at QB. They have a very good rb to take the heatoff  of Garcia and one of if not the best wide out in the nation. But they cant beat UGA or UF without Garcia. So the season lays in the hands of the Drunk Boy Jekyll & Hyde qb. So the Ole Ball Coach will sell his soul and bring Drunk Boy back ( Like He Ever Went Anywhere ) JUST WIN BABY !

I don't think I will ever understand how suspending someone in the offseason is a punishment.

Does a Notre Dame fan really want to get involved in the big boy conversations about football, drinking, and criminals.  Say what you want about LSU, but we are not killing our student assistants and we are winning BCS bowl games and contending for national championships.  Notre Dame cannot claim any of that, but you will put a certified drunk on the field this year.  That glass house is not looking so cool now, is it?

Deja vu !
This along with others like it just prove it hardly matters what kind of person you are or what you do - if you can play well
all you will every get is a little slap on the hand. Four months summer suspension is a joke. It was never in doubt that he
would be back in time to start, regardless.
