When Miami head coach Al Golden addressed the status of touted offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson at ACC Media Day, he was proud to inform the media that Henderson had dropped his weight just under 350 pounds and was getting in shape after being troubled with some back issues in the spring. He did not expect Henderson to be ready for the start of camp, guessing that he would miss the first "7-10 days."

The expectations for Henderson changed on Tuesday when it was reported that the sophomore tackle will undergo back surgery, with no timetable set for his return. According to the report, Henderson's procedure is scheduled for Aug. 8, but no details have been revealed on the extent of the operation.

Tuesday evening Jorge Milian, of the Palm Beach Post, cited a team source that suggested Henderson could miss the entire 2011 season, with many other reports around Miami suggesting a similar outcome.

Henderson was the top rated recruit in the nation coming out of high school and started 10 games for the Hurricanes in his freshman campaign. However, back issues kept him limited during spring practice and he was expected to battle 6-foot-7 320-pound Malcom Bunche for the started tackle job this fall.

If Henderson is out for the season, the greatest hit the Hurricanes will take is to their depth. Bunche has received good reviews from his work in the spring, but the redshirt freshman still hasn't seen any action in a game. Luckily for Miami, seniors Harland Gunn, Tyler Horn, and All-ACC senior Brandon Washington are all healthy and ready to lead the unit heading into camp.

The school has not made an official statment on Henderson's status, but Golden is expected to address the issue on Friday in a news conference.

He should have gone to OSU - at least he could have scored some free tats on top of his free meals.

A back injury can end your career in a hurry, especially if you weigh 350 lbs.  The fact is that Henderson was a bit of a disappointment last season.  He hs certainly not shown any type of talent that made him one of the top recruits coming out of High School.  he amy also be a bit of a head case.  Miami is his 3rd College, though he never played at the first two schools he opted for.  Miami may be better off with Bunche starting.  Henderson may be a big loss as far as depth goes, but I do not see a lot of difference between he and Bunche.

He committed to USC but thought Pete Carroll might leave, so he chose Miami.  Then the coash for Miami left.  Now he get hurt for a year.  Sometimes its best to go with your first choice.

Lets be real as of right now its minor surgery and they expect him to be out a couple of weeks. He was suspended for the first game of the year anyways so this may not set him back but one game.

this guy seemed to have unlimited potential coming out of high school, now it seems to have switched to limited potential, that is sad.

If henderson is out, then they are one more injury away from being thin on the O-line again. No one wants to play freshmen. Not even great freshmen with lots of potential. This would be a big blow to their running game too, Seantrell is huge and run blocks like it.
