Oklahoma loses Travis Lewis for 8 weeks

Life in the college football world is hard enough when you've already got the #1 appearing next to your school, but life just got a bit tougher for Oklahoma. According to senior associate athletic director Kenny Mossman, linebacker Travis Lewis suffered a broken bone in his foot during practice on Monday and is going to be out for eight weeks.

This is a major loss for the Oklahoma defense, as the All-American has led the Sooners in tackles the last three seasons. Lewis has also had 6 sacks and 8 interceptions to go along with the 362 tackles he's made in his first three seasons with the Sooners. In other words, he's not the type of player you can just replace.

"We're disappointed for Travis," said Bob Stoops. "He has worked very hard and I know he'll want to get back as quickly as possible.

"We'll adapt in the meantime. We've recruited very well and have some excellent athletes in those positions. I'm confident that those players will perform well."

If there's any good news for Lewis it's that the foot will not require surgery.

One player does not make a defense.  There are 10 other guys on this unit who are pretty solid defenders.  Losing T. Lewis will be tough considering how early we play FSU, but part of the reason OU's a superpower in college football is because we can recruit year in and year out.  Hopefully, the coaches are prepared and have someone ready to step in and earn their stripes on D.  Whoever it is doesn't have to be as good as T. Lewis - he just needs to make a few plays and don't make any stupid mistakes, like forgetting his assignments.  The offense should be good enough to carry them until he gets back.

I agree with you, Smokie.  I'm also a Horns fan and want to win on the field, but sure don't want any of the kids to get hurt.

Hosehead...is it?   Let me help you out.  With regards to the injury of an outright All American, you need only to go back & look at the posts from Elite, Sooner Nation, Spin & OK93....hell, we even got Texas fans jumpin in.   As for the rest of the team and the lofty ranking - it's called talent, depth & experience - but - only time will tell.   I'll just say this....Watch these Sooners....just watch.

Wow this really sucks to see this kid get injured.. even though I'm a Longhorn Alum.. I must say I feel bad for OU with all these injuries they keep facing year after year... but they stay poised and still contend year after year... good luck to the sooners this season.. hook em..
