Police settle on possible charges for LSU players

While we're all still waiting to find out more about what took place in a bar fight on Thursday night in Baton Rouge that reportedly involved a number of LSU players, including quarterback Jordan Jefferson, word leaked on Monday night that the police had settled on possible charges for four LSU players.

"Our investigation has led us to believe that both simple battery and second degree battery will be the appropriate charge when the case is concluded," police spokesman Don Stone said late Monday.

Now what Don Stone didn't say is that four LSU players will definitely be arrested, though if the police have determined what possible charges they'll be filing against the players, you have to think they plan on making the arrests. As I said in my post on this over the weekend, a simple battery charge is a misdemeanor. The second degree battery charge is a felony.

The initial word was that Jefferson and offensive lineman Chris Davenport would be charged with second degree battery, while starting defensive tackle Josh Downs and wide receiver Jarvis Landry would be charged with simple battery.

Again, none of these four players has been charged with anything yet, but considering the report over the weekend and officer Stone's words on Monday night, it seems as if it's only a matter of time before those charges are filed.

his unique publish built me smile. Perhaps honestly in the event you throw within a fairly handful of pics it could make the entire point more wonderful. Anyway, in my language, there in many conditions typically are certainly not an entire good deal incredible present that include this.

From what I am hearing the Marine in question was on boot leave. This is the 10 days you are off between Boot Camp and MCT/SOI.  Chalk one up for 5 guys beating up an 18 year old.  To the person talking about pigs(cops).  Cops just do not show up out of thin air.  If cops would have been there the arrests would have been made on the spot.  To the people saying Jefferson has to be better than the other 2 QB's.  Jefferson never outplayed Lee last year but Miles still gave him most of the snaps.  Go back and look at the games if you want to.  Like I said before if you kick someone while they are on the ground you are chicken s***.

this is scam newton all over again(minus the load of cash)(or maybe not????).  watch jefferson have the greatest year of his career and LSU keeps winning when he should have been in jail or kicked off the team.

It's a dang bar fight.

If the players weren't the agressors, then it should simply be dismissed.  Why does every time there are idiots who wish to fight does there have to be police and charges?

"a question

if a marine who is trained armed forces get into a fight, is he obligated to identify that he is trained armed forces??

I have been told this is true but dont know that to be a fact.

an answer

NO.  As far as we know, this Marine could have been a cook, and they are not exactly killing machines.

Regardless of the outcome those players were morons. By the way what is the punishment for violating team rules...as in breaking curfew? Isnt that typically a game suspension? As for the comment about the ND poster and Michael Floyd... No one is saying what he did was not wrong; the difference at least for now, is that Residence Life and the court system decided his fate. That has yet to happen with the LSU players. For the objective LSU fans who posted good for you taking the integrity road instead of the asinine comment about LSU players beating up a Marine...Seriously? Can you be more redneck than that? To be fair I have not read or heard the players version of the incident. Suffice to say something went down or there would not be a need for medical attention and the fact these players broke curfew and got involved in a fight makes it more of a problem for LSU's Athletic Department. With all the NCAA investigations going on LSU better be sure and do the right thing. Dodging the punishment to allow those guys to play against Oregon smacks of Ohio State and the Sugar Bowl. No player should ever be above the law. I also agree we need to wait and see what law enforcement does about charges. If Jefferson is charged with second degree battery in my opinion, he needs to be kicked off the team. This is an opportunity for LSU to prove to the college football world that they are about more than college football; something Ohio State could have done and chose not to and it has cost them.

more:

the attorney for the 4 injured men has released photos (although I haven't seen them) that I am told show some bloodied faces.  Nice touch.  But theatrics at best without evidence to show why they got the bloodied faces.

remember the agreesor does not always win the fight...

Les Miles is not stupid

1- he can't really decide Jefferson's guilt and he is letting the police do their job, therefore as he has since camp opened, Jefferson is running 1A, Lee 1B and Mettenberger 2.

THIS IS A FACT.

2- he has instituted a "running" regimen for the players to gain their full attention.  Some players call it a little extra, other call it pretty tough, and others indicate "it will make us better."  Again Miles is dealing with a curfew issue that he knows they broke.

3-  he has always had a "no talk" rule about injuries.  Why let Oregon or anybody know what to prepare for.  Maybe the team knows who will start and who will not.  Maybe Miles "has a want" for Oregon to not know what to expect.

something to consider

I am totally amazed that no phone video has shown up on youtube.

you have to figure SOMEBODY saw a "VIDEO moment" and has this on film.

AND

EVERY news report I have seen, heard or read gives the "4 injured people's side" but only 1 or 2 people saying something different.

I have a very reliable source telling me that several depostions have been taken "with a very different story and each one has indicated that the police have yet to follow up with these people to get their story."

why have the police taken names of witnesses, and stated "we'll get back to you for your statement" and then not done so???

a question

if a marine who is trained armed forces get into a fight, is he obligated to identify that he is trained armed forces??

I have been told this is true but dont know that to be a fact.

I am curious...
