Brian Kelly takes a shot at Ohio State

Life is frustrating for Brian Kelly right now. He's the head coach of a Notre Dame team that really should be 2-0 on the season, but is 0-2 thanks to ten turnovers -- five in the red zone -- in two games, and Denard Robinson. Kelly also believes that Notre Dame's schedule is a big reason why the team is 0-2, as he believes his team is playing tougher games this early in the season than some of its counterparts, like, say, Ohio State.

“We’ve made so many mistakes against two pretty tough teams coming out,” Kelly told the Chicago Sun-Times. “Again, as you see the schedule, Ohio State is playing Toledo. I mean, teams are playing easy games early on in the schedule. We don’t get that luxury. We have to go play in front of 115,000 [at Michigan Stadium]. Those mistakes are more glaring against opponents that are physically pretty good, as well.

“I believe that we’re going to be a good football team. We won’t be until we clean up the little things that keep popping up on Saturdays.”

Why Kelly felt the need to take a shot at Ohio State's early season schedule, I'm not sure. What's further confusing about it is that Kelly is also taking a veiled shot at Toledo, a school that gave Ohio State just about all it could handle on Saturday, and one of the best members of the MAC conference which is exactly where Kelly helped make a name for himself coaching at Central Michigan. It was hardly an "easy game" for the Buckeyes.

Personally, instead of making excuses for the team's start by pointing out how tough Notre Dame's schedule is, I feel like Kelly should say that his team just isn't that good right now. After all, whether the Irish were playing South Florida, Michigan, Toledo or some tiny FCS school, it wasn't those teams fumbling at the goal line or making terribly advised passes in the red zone.

It was Notre Dame and the Irish have nothing to blame but themselves for this start.

Hey Ohio Lawyer, you by any way involved with the scandal with the OSU athletes? OSU is a has been and are not as good as you think they still are! Kelly is a great coach with some geneous offensive schemes! Does he need to address the turnovers yes, but he's not the one turning it over. It's the young kids on the team that will be in a BCS bowl in the next 2 years.

Watch you ND haters, ND will be in a BCS bowl in the next 2 years. Let's see if the criminals at OSU can make it there any time soon. He is the head coach so he has to answer to all the naysayers like yourselves. He's a great coach with a lot of young talent and offensive schemes, he's not the one turning the ball over. Over 500 yards of offense the last 2 weeks should say something. Once the can eliminate some of those foolish turnovers, especially in the red zone, they can beat any one in the country!

I guess Kelly still wishes he was playing soe of the teams he scheduled out of coinference while at the University of Cincinnati. But then even that in conference schedule was pretty weak. Maybe ND should join a conference an then maybe their coach can stop his whining. Maybe the Sun Belt conference would take a weak sister like ND... or maybe not....

Uh.... OSU plays nobody? They play many of the same schoold ND plays, ie, Purdue, Michigan State and Michigan and they play those schoold later in the year when those schools will have improved. OSU plays Nebraska, Wisconsin and Miami (okay Miami has issues). OSU doesnt play outmanned and teams year after year after year like ND. At ;east they vary their schedule. Last time I checked when OSU has played ND in the last 10 to 20 years they have won and won handily. But then Gipper, seeing that you resorted to name calling in your post indicates your lack of ability to formulate coherent arguments much like Kelly who if he isn't using the F-bomb every other word appears to just bather about issues he is unversed in. I guess you and he make a perfect match. Glad you are an ND fan.....

I agree with xcrew46, he's right on target about Kelly's antics as a head football coach. Kelly is like a bully who kicks all the marbles out of the ring, and then starts blaming everyone else for his failure.  He won't last long at ND.  Kelly needs to take some lessons in public speaking and perception from the likes of Al Golden, Frank Beamer, Joe Paterno and Brady Hoke.

I don't like what I am hearing out of Kelly.  The words of a loser and excuse maker.  I don't care how he feels personally, a head coach of ND or any team/organization shouldn't say such things in public.  Don't tell me the reasons why you can't tell me the reasons why you can!

Stop whinning and fess up to the facts.  When you have a need to pursue network funding, scheduling competitive games is necessary.  Nonetheless most would not consider South Florida a competitve game and later games againt Purdue, Navy, Wake Forest, Maryland and BC are not difficult.  The schedule practically guarantees ND a winning season, unless they continue to turn the ball over.  Just shut up and play ball.

OHIO STATE Schedule is without question just as tough as NOTRE DAMES, they play the Same teams every year, ND just plays them in the beginning of the year... OSU plays michigan, mich st purdue (as does ND)  ND plays navy and air force (which im not sure are better than toledo picked to win th MAC)

ND plays USC at home and at Stanford,
OSU plays Penn State at home and At Nebraska
(pretty Similar)

ND plays maryland at home and At pittsburgh
Osu plays Wisconsin at Home and At Illinois

Osu also non conf plays colorado at home and @ Miami
ND has  BC at home and @ Wake Forest

these schedules are very similar...

MAIN DIFF... ND plays a lot of Good Teams with one great... OSU plays a lot of good teams with two great (@nebraska, wisconsin)
