West Virginia statement doesn't mention Big East

It's never a good sign when a school offers a statement in the middle of conference realignment, and not only does it reaffirm its commitment to its current conference, it doesn't even bother mentioning its current conference at all. Such is the state of affairs with West Virginia's statement, proffered by athletic director Oliver Luck Sunday afternoon. Here's the statement in full:

"There is no question that the landscape of college athletics is once again changing. West Virginia University has great tradition as the state’s flagship land-grant institution, and we will continue working to do what’s best for our University and its athletic teams. No matter how the college athletic landscape changes, there is no doubt WVU is and will remain a national player."

Right--not exactly a good omen for the Big East. Luck is right, of course; the Mountaineers would be a solid fit in both the ACC and the SEC, and maybe even the Big 12 if things get really weird. The only way West Virginia doesn't get picked up by a major conference is if the school fails to be proactive in its future endeavors, and what Luck is telling Mountaineer fans in this statement is that won't happen.

Now they have the nerve to say WVU would not fit in academically to the ACC.  Funny.  More accurate - the ACC was able to get Pitt and Cuse after the flagship school of the BE football conference decided to go to a better conference, the SEC.
Who's laughing? West Virginia would be a horrible academic fit. You want to join the SEC, go nuts.

Whoops!  My previous comment should have been posted on the Mountain West/CUSA post.  Please disregard anything I said in relation to WVU.  Stupid CBS and their broken links.

These conference should stay the same and do what I read the other day:  hold a championship game BETWEEN the two conference winners to obtain a BCS bid.  If that happens, in an environment with 4 superBCS conferences, the small fish in the ocean should set up matches to participate in a playoff.  Kind of like the smaller countries play inter-conference games to play in the World Cup, while most European teams have easier access because of tougher competition.

The Big East was going to fail when it got started, kept adding "basketball only schools"  if a school CANNOT or will not field a Division I football program then that conference will fail.  I do not agree that congress should become involved in the conference "morphing"  I feel bad for WVU because they are going to be left out in the cold.  There have been two splits in the Big East and neither time was WVU mentioned in either case which tells you what other schools are looking for.  Rutgers to the Big Ten (New York and New Jersey), Missouri (St Louis).  ESPEEN is the root but not the cause.  I want a choice in my cable and have the chance to drop ESPEEN and see how that effects their cash.

As a WVU alum, th elast place I want me alma mater to end up is the ACC.  Swofford appears to be a lieing scumbag.  The man acts like a member of the mafia.  But Swofford is only a small part of my problem.  I just don't see any glamour in playing Duke or Clemson or North Carolina State.  No offense to those schools.  It's just that we dont have anything in common and there is no reason to get excited to play them.  Now, playing Florida and Tennessee and Georgia in football gets my blood boiling.  And to play them in basketball does the same thing.  To go to Cameron Indoor Stadium would be really cool, but other than that, ACC basketball is too stuffy for me.  Playing Pitt has gotten old and their fans are such hypocrits, not unlike Pederson or Nordenberg (or whatever that back-stabbing, fork-tongued idiots name is).

WVU is the natural 16th school for the ACC if UConn also joins.  No-brainer.

Buford, WVU needs to leave the conference now, there is nothing even worth staying there. WVU over the years have now lost all their in-conference rivalry games for football by losing Pitt. Do you really think that will continue with them in the ACC? Remember the rivalry with VT? How has that held up? WVU needs out of the Big East, which should have been done before the season started. WVU has been one of the most consistent programs over the past 10 years and we all know they have the fan base to go to a better conference because it extends well outside WV, like NY/NJ/PA/VA/DC..... I am still having a hard time believing the ACC would take Rutgers over WVU. WVU has a business school in the top 100, their alumni that contribute aren't a joke either. Plus WVU sells out all their games unlike the two others that are being mentioned to go to the ACC next.

SMURPH...... don't blame the BE problems on the ACC or SEC.  Put the blame right squarely on the shoulders of your BE Conference headquarters in having all those basketball only schools in the conference, and leaving the football/basketball all-sports schools with their hands tied. Admit it
guy, the BE is the ONLY "hodgepodge" mess in the entire BCS conferences.  You need to get the "chip" off your shoulders my man, and fess up to the fact that the BE conference officials caused your problems.
