The Oklahoma Board of Regents met on Monday afternoon and the conference affiliation of Oklahoma was one of the topics that was discussed. While there wasn't any earth-shattering news to come out of the meeting, Oklahoma at least seemed to take the next step in eventually moving from the Big 12 to the Pac 12.

The school has authorized President David Boren to take whatever action he deems necessary in deciding Oklahoma's future. Which doesn't exactly sound like the sort of thing a school that is planning to stick around in its current conference would do.

Especially when Boren himself said afterward that he is "prepared to take those actions" and that he's had "informal conversations with the Pac-12." Conversations that Boren described as "warm" and "constructive."

Sounds like a love connection to me.

While nothing is certain at this point, odds are that if Oklahoma does make the jump to the Pac-12, then it will be bringing Oklahoma State along with it. Which is why it's not much of a surprise to see that Oklahoma State's Board of Regents will meet on Wednesday to discuss conference affiliation as well.

Texas and Texas Tech have also been mentioned as possible schools to follow this 21st century version of manifest destiny, and Texas' Board of Regents also met on Monday to discuss conference affiliation.

So can Mizzou and Rutgers just hang out and watch the bids come in since they now control that last two open markets (NYC & St Lou)

I saw some where Boren said stability & TV money equally shared between all members of the conference were to most important things. Now, there's a nice shot across old Bevo's bow.
OU finally feed up with UT's oversized ego?
Well, let's see what comes out in the wash. Looks as if the LHN  is still born any way, maybe UT will come to it's senses & decide to kill it, & stay in the Big 12. They already have more money then every one in the nation. The greed is killing in good conference.
Oh well, I won't hold my breathe.

what a crock! OU is the leader followed by the horns. why go to a second rate conference to play second rate teams? broadcast only late at night on secondary stations. why not create a super conference in central time zone with o state, tech, mizz, texas, a&m? or become the third division in the sec - a real football conference. just dont make sense to drop out of the majors and run with the little dogs in the puck 12.

You went to the trouble to add another sign on today just for this drivel? Amazing...

As an addendum to my previous comment, TCU is a perfect example.  In an effort to get into a BCS eligible conference, it joined the BigE.  How are they coping with that decision at this point or can they retreat from that commitment?  Where does it end?

I hope all goes as has been reported to date. If the remnants of the Big East and Pac 12 merge it would make one heck of a competive football conference and a very stong basketball conference. Notre Dame can then stay independent in football as it would like to, the Big 10 can change their name and be the new Big 12 with a very credible conference, and the ACC And PAC 12 can be the new ESPN EAST and ESPN WEST. The only question is what would the SEC do to go to a 14 team conference - add Missouri??

This is all moving too fast (warp speed).  While I realize no one wants to be left behind, it still seems unlike Boards to move this quickly.  How can a move by Pitt and Syracuse have this kind of reaction?  Those teams apparently want to be associated with the ACC which has two schools (at least) facing ginormous sanctions, i.e., North Carolina and Miami.  What are they thinking?  While this is all creating interesting conversation and lots of senseless conjecture, it does not thoroughly being considered with respect to history, traditional rivalries or anything else.  I believe if everyone could just take a deep breath, the conferences as currently configured can be saved (except of course for the BigE).

Apparently, having a large FINE for leaving is the key to keeping teams in line.  The ACC fee is $20M while BigE is $5.  As I recall, both Colorado and Nebraska got off easy through negotiation--bad decision.  Corporation Boards have fiduciary responsibilities.  Seems the Universities do not.  What a shame.

While the NCAA is staying under the radar (why?),  there should be some authority that requires a waiting period before all this nonsense can procede.

Maybe the answer lies with the Presidents of the colleges and universities.  You may observe that they all have strong political rather than business ties.  And those types react as oppose to plan and think.
