On Tuesday CBSSports.com's Brett McMurphy reported that the Big 12 had invited West Virginia to join the conference in the event that Missouri left for the SEC, and that West Virginia had accepted the invitation. A report that was confirmed by multiple outlets throughout the day.

Well, this is the world of conference realigment, and in the world of conference realignment things happen and then don't happen before happening again or not. Then you wake up in an alley somewhere with no recollection of how you got there or why you're suddenly missing a kidney.

So of course there was a report on Wednesday from the West Virginia Metro News saying that the done deal may not be a done deal after all, and that Louisvillecould be replacing Missouri in the Big 12.
As of late yesterday afternoon, WVU had received a verbal invitation to the Big 12 and had accepted. Plans were in the works for a news conference Wednesday to make the announcement.

But sources say the process hit a “bump in the road” last night.  WVU was apparently notified by the Big 12 that it needed “more information” from WVU and that there would be a vote by the Big 12 Board, perhaps on Monday.

There is speculation that the “bump” was a push by Louisville.
So what's the problem? Well, it's not so much that Louisville made some kind of last minute presentation to the Big 12 or anything as much as it's the fact that the schools aren't all in agreement that West Virginia is the better choice, as Brett McMurphy documented on Wednesday.

You may remember that on Monday, while one Big 12 administrator was talking about how much better West Virginia would be for the Big 12 than Missouri, another conference administrator was of the belief that Louisville was the better choice.

I know, the fact that the members of the Big 12 don't all agree on something shocks me too.

Cubbert is probably right - B12 is dead

"It might or might not strengthen the Big XII but it doesn't matter because the Big XII is done. Dan Beebe was asleep at the wheel when he should have been securing the future of the Big XII. It is a done deal that in the next few years there will be four super conferences; ACC, BIG, SEC and Pac. These Conferences will play for the National Champion. The other Conferences will go to Bowl games but will not have a chance to be the National Champ. The Big XII had an equal chance but Dan Beebe did not make any attempt to keep the Big XII relavant." I actually think there will be a fifth conference. But probably not be the Big 12 or the Big East. More likely some combination of the rest after the poaching finalizes. That way, they can seed 8 teams and guarantee one slot per conference champ. And three at-large bids for the rest of the top 8 BCS 2.0 in the BCS Playoffs. More money for the big boys that way. But looking at the big picture. Unless the Big 12 takes three teams and kills the Big East, the Big 12 will implode. Beene was a bafoon.

Not so fast on West Virginia to the Big 12

We are very concerned. It really is beginning to look like Missouri is not the problem, just a symtom. The individual network fiasco is very troubling. Not sure how this conference can proceed with a couple of prima donnas pulling the strings.

Not so fast on West Virginia to the Big 12

Still scratching my head about the Big 12 wanting West Virginia. Or do they? I see very little benefit with a decidedly East Coast program coming into a very different midwest-southwest attitude. It looks like an un-natural relationship. "Who is using who" in this possibility? The Big 10 conference sees the conflicts in asking Missouri into their fold as a southern mentality willing to mold itself into a decidely northern midwestern ora. But I am not even sure Louisville is a good fit in the Big 12 or BYU for that matter. There has to be a connect beyond just having a successful football program from the other side of the universe. Yep, I'm  still scatching my head as did Pete Carroll when he once asked Jim Harbaugh after their game, "What's the deal?"

Not so fast on West Virginia to the Big 12

I was excited to here the Big 12 was finally going to add someone. I listened to the West Virgina Sports radio claiming how stable the big 12 was and how glad to be coming. That was Tuesday, today I'm shaking my head of what a joke my mid west conferance ( Big 1doits) are. First the wait for Missouri, just boot them, they are gone anyway and you can live without the exit fee. Secondly take BYU for next year and play with 10 teams. Third, add Louiville and West Virgina and go to 12 and a champoinship game in 3 years. Is it really that hard to figure out. Someone in Dallas needs to grow some balls and shut Oklahoma's and Texas' pie holes so we can be proactive.

Not so fast on West Virginia to the Big 12

The Big 12 and everything that surrounds it is doing more to exemplify everything that's wrong with college football and the greedy politics that control it.  Suddenly, the beggars have become choosers.

Not so fast on West Virginia to the Big 12

I believe the original commentor was referring to ND being able to match Texas from a monetary perspective at this point.  With regards to that I agree that ND could come close to equalling Texas.

Louisvile, West Virginia, take both, leave BYU out, teams will not play on Sunday. Conference championship basketball and others are sometimes
played on Sunday.  Also whats with the 26 and 27 year old players?
Go Big 12.
