Tulane screwed rich rod for not only not hiring him but for the way they handled the interview process and letting him think he had the job. no shot he comes back to Tulane

Rodriguez, passed over for the head jobs at Tulane and Middle Tennessee State, late Tuesday accepted an offer to become the Tigers' offensive coordinator and assistant head coach.He turned down the top job at Southwestern Louisiana to join Bowden at Death Valley. "The advantage to Clemson is you're in a bigger arena and a chance for people to see your offense," Rodriguez said. "You're in front of a lot of folks in a top-notch conference at a big-time football school."

This might be a good job for Leach if he feels he is still being blackballed.  A smaller school that doesn't get on ESPN much anyway might not require him to drop his lawsuit.  I think the "Pirate" needs to be close to water; New Orleans definitely qualifies. 
 
As for Rich Rod, he will be mentioned for high-profile positions as they open.  Anyone who reads Three and Out will know beyond any reasonable doubt that RR was sabotaged by Lloyd Carr and much of the so-called "Michigan family" because he was an "outsider," and because Carr was upset that he didn't get to name his own successor.  Consequently, AD's and presidents will be able to figure out that what happened there doesn't reflect on his coaching ability, but more on a Michigan program that prefers an inbred coaching tree.  
 
Leach deserves a higher-profile job, too, but the ESPN/Craig James smear campaign was so effective that it he might have to take a job like Tulane as a transition.  It sounds like a win-win situation to me.  I am guessing that he might not be there long, though.  

That's part of my point on a previous post. Talk of building a stadium does not equal a stadium. If the financing does come, it still takes at least 2-3 tears to build one, so a coach would wait at least 4-5 years for a stadium that might be built.  I am really wondering why some FBS schools, and FCS schools, continue to pour money into football. Only 22% of FBS schools turn a profit , and those are the schools with the huge football stadiums and basketball arenas.
A lot of schools need to consider their budgets, and maybe decide to quit football, and spend a quarter of what was the football budget on a "special alliance" with a nearby FB power. Tulane fans could become LSU football fans, and invite NO LSU fans to watch with them on big screen TV"s! A good time would be had by all, and Tulane's budget wouldn't be drained by the extremely expensive football program! 
This is the TV era, there will be less and less market for minor FB programs, on TV or in the seats.  I live in a mid-size college city in TN, there is a FCS FB program, but they can't come close to selling out, the team wins 2 or 3 games a year, but they're talking about building a new stadium, like , "Build it and they will come."  NO, they won't!   Instead of spending money on 60 or so FB scholarships, and FB equipment and travel, my local college should put a big*** TV in the basketball arena, and host big viewing parties for the UT Vols!  It's a well-known fact that at many smaller colleges, the students wear as many T-shirts of the state's FB power as of their own college!
Think this through,  a football team is like fielding a small army, very expensive, and why does every school have to have one? Especially when only a small fraction of the student body and locals attend?

Anyway, Rich Rod was a good defensive coordinator away from success at MICH.  An AD could hire him with the understanding he would have "help" hiring a DC, and would keep his paws off the defense. As for Leach, he didn't bring BCS bowls or conference championships to Lubbock ( who could?), but he compiled a whole lot of wins and madcap, entertaining FB. That sells tickets!  He's a quirky genius, obsessed with pirates. Like Snyder at KS ST is obsessed with Pinocchio (really!).  Crazy sells tickets before the season even begins!
Leach could be hired with the understanding he would not utter the words "Craig James" in public, and ESPN could have a similar understanding with  Craig James.

I believe they are constructing a new athletics facility on campus. Tulane has a nice baseball stadium, thats about it. Football games are at the Superdome, which has to be appealing to potential recruits. BUT, when you combine the fact that students have to be bussed from campus to the Superdome located downtown and the fact that Tulane Football isn't competitive,you're left without many ways to appeal to potential recruits. I've heard rumors of the stadium too, located near Claiborne Ave, and it would help attendance and recruiting, but I've heard that talk for over 2 years now.

Rich Rod and Leach could do a lot better. Tulane has some dreams of building up their FB program, but they play in a big stadium with small crowds.   In a city with a smaller population since Katrina, a city obsessed with the Saints and LSU.
I don't think Leach or Rich Rod need to use a football graveyard (sorry, Tulane) as a stepping stone. Let's review some much bigger programs that might be desperate for a winning coach in a month or two.  Kansas, Ole Miss, Kentucky, UCLA, Boston College, Georgia ( probably not yet, due to this year's amazingly lucky schedule, but who knows?), Arizona, Washington State, TX A&M ( a new coach for a new conference,  3 blown big leads in 3 big games, and you're out!), NC State, and there's always a surprise or two. And if these schools select active HC's, that creates other openings.  I'm pretty sure at least 2 AD's at these schools will be under enough pressure to take a chance on Rich Rod or Leach.

The trick to landing any "coach of note" for Tulane hinges upon whether Tulane is ready to commit to its own program. A former head coach will expect certain obligations to be met by the university that Tulane seems to be unwilling to do. The program has needs. It's not a job you can just walk in, and what you need is there. Tulane has a less than enthusiastic following, understandable, facilities that are not suited to a college football atmosphere( the Superdome), and a reputation of not supporting the program, they came close to dropping it recently. Those things can change, but the coach that takes the job will have a " build from the ground up" job on his hands that will take time. There is "talk" of an on campus stadium, that's a good start, but it's still in the talk phase of the project, and may remain there. The fanbase will have to be revived, what that will take is wins, but other things need to be done before wins are produced, like recruiting, but you need something to offer recruits in the form of facilties , and support. In short, the Tulane job will be a great deal of work, with little reward up front. Is Leach, or Rich Rod willing to take on that kind of program rebuild? Is any well known coach willing to do that much work for so little reward? An up and coming, young go getter, of a coordinator may be Tulane's best hope. I wish the Greenwave luck in their search.

Both would help in recruiting as just names, plus it may help them sneak into the next round of Big East expansion having a big name coach and a decent market and recruiting area,

Any bets Leach and Idiot Rod let thier egos get in the way of coaching again?? These two might be thinking they will get their shot again at the big time, thus throwing away multiple opportunites to go to a small school that will love and keep them forever if they win. Idiot Rod will never be a head coach anywhere in a BCS league. Personally I think those two had better jump all over Tulane, UNM, or whatever other lowly school comes calling, because national titles are more than likely far fetched even as pipe dreams.
