Fozzy Whittaker's Texas career is over

The news was somewhat expected after seeing the injury on Saturday, but Texas confirmed the worst for running back Fozzy Whittaker on Sunday night. The school announced that Whittaker had suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee, which ends Whittaker's 2011 season and college career.

Whittaker suffered the injury during the first quarter on Saturday in Texas' loss to Missouri.

The impact of Whittaker was very evident in that loss, as the Longhorns offense seemed lost without him. Not helping matters was that Malcolm Brown and Joe Bergeron were both out of the game as well. Still, even when those two return, Whittaker will not be easy to replace.

As well as being a special teams threat on kick returns, Whittaker also runs the Wildcat formation for the Texas offense. A formation that Bryan Harsin's offense had been using with great results in the last few weeks.

Whittaker finishes his career at Texas with 1,233 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He had 386 yards and 6 rushing touchdowns this season.

Fozzy Whittaker's Texas career is over

No matter what side your on it is never good to see a kid go down with an injury.  To think anyone gets excited about downed players is crazy. It is always our preference to have teams at their best play, but the game of football rarely allows that,  This is where recruiting and coaching comes into play.

Again, as always on these sites it only takes one person's viewpoint to ruin it for others.  Likely those making the most ridiculous of comments probably never graduated from the school, A&M, UT, or OU.  As a A&M fan, season ticket holder, and grad I will always hope for the best for the athlete, no matter the school, that allows us to be so passionate about our teams.

For the previous commenst about being overrated, I find it hard for anyone at UT, A&M, or for that matter OU, to not feel we were all overrated.  For A&M, our hopes were high but the defense is not being coached to run the scheme we run and we are suffering with come backs galore.  No matter what the BCS rank, #2, #6, #7, and #13 were all tough losses.  OU should have been the only one we lost but our defense cant sustain and many of our offense standouts simply are not playing to their hype.  Then there are always injuries.  So, absolutely we were overrated!

UT fan cant be feeling much better.  Big time program, ranks the best financially and resoureceful in the country.  Then add in consistent Top 5 - Top 10 recruiting rankings, etc and UT should never fall from the Top 20, never!  So, again overrated!

OU, pre-season #1, who still has a chance to get in the BCS Championship, but it will take a lot of dominoes to fall right.  Why the country doubt?  Athlete injuries to key players.  Then there is that home loss to Tech who is the same team who has got a west texas beating from every team they have played since the OU win and have been outscored 159 - 33 in those 3 games.  How do you lose that game?  Coaches, players, and fans all thinking they are better, so again overrated.

Injuries happen, losses happen, and rivalries are what makes college football the best.  To cheer a young adult's injury for the home team is simply sad and in many regards no different than what McQueary did/did not do at Penn State many years ago.

Hopefully Fozzy rerturns as a winner in or out of athletics.  Thanksgiving's game is going to be full of injury excuses and B12 vs SEC chatter, but one thing is for sure, both programs entered this year with much higher expectations and both were over rated.

Fozzy Whittaker's Texas career is over

Fozzy can't be replaced.  He ran the wildcat exceptionally well and was a very bright spot for a rather bleak offense.  If Brown or Bergeron are back the offense will not look as ugly but will certainly still be bland.  The offense is in trouble no matter what.

Charleston...Oklahoma does not have a shot at the NC because Ok State is the better team this year and will handle you in a few weeks.  If, by some chance, they lay down and you beat them and go to the NC (which would be a joke after getting beat by a crappy TT team in Norman by the way), you will then get your you know what handed to you by whichever SEC team you play because you aren't that good this year.

sti005

I have not been a member long but i have read some of the comments some OU fans and A&M have said but your very classy and I like that we are talking about a kid getting hurt and they want to bring up about blue chip players and Mack Brown being the worst coach thank you for being classy. As for the rest of you clown A&M and OU fans see here is the thing we are young but the same players you are blasting about being blue chip players you guys were after and jealousy is so ugly.  I am glad A&M is getting it handed to them this year because they cried all summer about the LHN when they should have been focusing on football so take all the loses and like it to the SEC. You can't even win in the BIG 12 what makes you think you can win in SEC. Oh the report is the reason they are leaving is because they think that will be the recruiting edge on Texas because SEC is a better league news flash doesn't matter if you suck. They said right now out of 10 recruites who have the choice of Texas or A&M they are getting 2 or 3 well when you suck what do you expect. You know you might even beat us this year but dont forget we are still big Brother you can run but you can't hide from the fact there is a reason your A&M and not Texas. LOL

Fozzy Whittaker's Texas career is over

charleston,

Oklahoma has played 1 game w/o their top RB and 0 games w/o their top WR. They lost to TTech with both of those players active. This article is about 1 player who is out for the season. Noboby is making an excuse. Save the criticism and take a chill pill, seriously.

Oklahoma has lost their top skill players and it #5 in the country with a real shot at the NC.  Texas always makes excuses.  You have a horrible head coach and the entire country knows it except Texas fans...

Fozzy Whittaker's Texas career is over

This is so sad for Fozzy; he's never finished a season at Texas due to injury.  Sad too that on other articles and other sites, mizz and ag fans beating up on Texas as "overrated", "where's all that 5 star talent?", etc. What team, from HS to the NFL, gives 1st string reps so deep in the lineup?  No football team at any level could survive losing their top 4 skill players from their offense mid-season.  As for being overrated, any rating Texas has had was earned throughout the year as Texas started the season unranked, as opposed to the currently NOT bowl eligible teams leaving the Big12 for the SEC.
