GEORGIA WON. In arguably their most important conference game of the season, Georgia overcame a slow start to beat Kentucky 19-10 and win the SEC East outright. The Bulldogs needed a win to avoid a tie in the standings with South Carolina, because the Gamecocks owned head-to-head tiebreaker. Freshman running back Isaiah Crowell injured his ankle early in the first half, and Carlton Thomas was absent for "personal reasons," so it was Brandon Harton who led the way on the ground with 23 carries for 101 yards.

HOW GEORGIA WON: Kentucky controlled the line of the scrimmage early in the game on both sides of the ball, but the story of the game for both teams was turnovers. Even when the Wildcats seemed to have the momentum early, turnovers kept them from being able to take advantage of the Bulldogs' slow start. Eventually the Bulldogs got their rushing game rolling, and Kentucky began to break down. Freshman quarterback Maxwell Smith was replaced by Morgan Newton after a hard hit put him on the sideline in the third quarter, and Kentucky's passing game never recovered.

WHEN GEORGIA WON: Maxwell Smith was able to find some success passing on Georgia's defense, which only allowed allowed 1.1 yards per carry all afternoon. But that passing attack left when Smith did, As Newton only attempted two passes for the rest of the game.

WHAT GEORGIA WON: Their first SEC East title and Championship Game appearance since 2005. After starting the season 0-2, the Bulldogs have ripped off nine straight wins to put themselves in contention for a BCS bowl game.

WHAT KENTUCKY LOST: The Wildcats caught Georgia sleepwalking early in the game, but mistakes and the inability to run the ball kept Kentucky from pulling off the upset. Bowl eligibility was not completely out of reach until Saturday's loss, which was the seventh of the season for Joker Phillips' squad.

South Carolina lost to SEC teams Auburn and Arkansas. That is why they do not go to Atlanta. Lets not forget Georgia absolutely crushed Auburn and dominated South Carolina. Unfortunately for Georgia they gave the game away on a fake punt, interception and two fumbles. All for touchdowns. I saw that game on CBS out here in Wyoming. Georgia should have easily won that game something like 42-17. Bottom line, it was obvious to any unbiased football fan Georgia was the better team by quite a bit.

What ironies in college football.   SC beats GA and the rest of the slate in the SEC East and yet wont represent their division in the SEC finals.

Clemson loses 1 in their division (Atlantic) and gets to punch their ticket to the ACC title game.

I guess now next we need to take bets on is how much LSU will win by!

(Or if GA will win the State of Georgia champsionship next week against Ga.Tech?)

If there was such a thing as a legitimate champion in major college football, which there is not beause of the process, the SEC champion would fill one of the spots. All I hear is the SEC is the best conference and has won five straight mythical BS bowl titles. Further I here all the supporters of the BS system saying the regular season and championship games are the playoffs. End of discussion, the SEC champion whoever it is should fill one of the spots.

This season in particular shows the falacies of everybody drinking the media blitz cool-aid trying to overpublicize certain teams early in the season to position them for a BS championship run. Then when those teams falter, as many times they do, deserving teams are not seriously looked at because they have flown so much under the radar and ranked to low to be considered. We should never seriously rank teams until the end of the season and let everything sift out until then. Then if there is to be a true champion there needs to be some sort of criteria to choose that champion such as the selected team must be a conference champion or provide a playoff, etc. The current BS system does not provide any criteria. The process is left open for media networks to sway public opinion toward two teams for the mythical BS bowl and leave all other teams playing in the bowl since all those deserving teams now are told they have no chance.

The old bowl system was better because all the top teams played top competition in the major bowls and after bowl season we had a pretty good idea who was the best. We still have a good idea who is the best after the major bowls are played but unfortunately the best team may not have been in the mythical BS bowl.

The current BS bowl selection system has given us two good teams and a bunch of mismatches so we can not make a good determination any more as to who is number one at the end of the season. It forces us to that one game which may not be the best two teams.

The fans should all ban together and blow it up with a massive electronic media blitz of our own saying we will not except this mythical illegitimate BS bowl system anymore and will not watch it or support it. Advertising dollars talk and if we don't watch or support it the entire thing blows up. Everyone must quit focusing all their energy on who should be number one and two. Instead begin focusing all that energy on how we as fans can fix it. Advertising dollars is the way. We will not watch or buy any products advertising the current BS bowl system.

I am a college football fan in Wyoming with no strong ties to any program so I look more logically at this rediculous system we have been force fed. Throw it back to them and do not support it. That is the only way. I am not a Georgia fan and further do not think they can win the SEC championship. Although they certainly have a very talented team that will be a near toss up to beat anybody in the west if the Georgia players come in with the right attitude. If they beat Tech and do win the SEC championship they advance to the BS championship game period.

Thank You, BullSchlitz

I really hope dawgblood was kidding. Not even the most die hard Georgia fan can really believe they even have a remote shot at the National Championship game. Even if they win the next two games.....good luck and even with all that happened last night both OU's losing they have no chance of leaping over Bama Arkansas and probably LSU even if they beat them.....not to mention Boise who beat up the Dawgs head to head in Georgia. You were probably the first one calling for coaches job after the 0-2 start against the only 2 teams that were really good on the schedule both in Georgia by the way. so good luck to Georgia but a Sugar Bowl (which is a huge accomplishment by the way) will be the best your team will be able to do.

Sure, they managed to get by Kentucky...
But can they beat Tech... maybe, just maybe...
Ah, but can they beat LSU like all these Bulldog fans around here seem to (delusionally) think? Hmm...
"Dawgs" enjoy today and maybe next week (if you're lucky)...
Ya' might have run it up on my AU Tigers (current SEC and National Champs),
but YOU WILL BE HUMILIATED by the Tigers from Baton Rouge!!
