One of the many heroes of last weekend's insane slate of college football games is doubtlessly the intrepid Baylor fan rushing the field while sporting a pair of crutches as the final seconds ticked down in the Bears' 45-38 upset of No. 5 Oklahoma on Saturday. If you haven't seen the video, please watch:
Clearly, we had to know more.
The fan in question is Baylor student Lindsay Stranahan, a.k.a. @B_Lucky11, and she was gracious enough to grant an interview with CBSSports.com about what we'll call the Hobble to Glory.
1) We have to ask: Why are you on crutches, and how did it happen? Also, how long are you going to be out of commission?
Honestly, I don't have a very cool story for the crutches… I fell off a curb two weeks ago! I must add, the curb was very tall though. I went to the doctor two weeks ago and got x-rays and nothing was broken, so they let me go. However, when my ankle and foot were still swollen, bruised, and painful two weeks later, I figured something really wasn't right. So I went back to the doctor and was told I had a sprained ligament in my foot. I have a brace and have to use crutches for two more weeks.
2) What row were you in, and how easy was it to get onto the field?
Thanks to my great friends, I ended up in the first row at the game! Around halftime, my friends and I started to think about rushing the field and what I would do. There were stairs a few feet to the right of me, so we figured that would work. With about two minutes left in the game, I made my way over to the stairs and sat on the railing with my crutches on the stairs. With about a minute left, I was allowed to come onto the field. It was amazing to watch the epic ending to that game on the sidelines!
3) Did anyone try to stop you--security, friends, concerned fellow Baylor fans?
Yes, many people tried to stop me. At first, the security people told me that nobody was allowed on the field, but when they saw me sitting on the railing waiting, I think they realized it would be safer just to let me down. My friends were all very supportive and everybody around encouraged me, and told me to be careful of course.
4) The 3rd quarter tipped-pass touchdown: great play, or the greatest play?
Definitely THE greatest play. Robert Griffin III and Kendall Wright deserve a lot of credit, that was incredible. I'm still speechless. RG3's reaction says it all!
5) Was there ever any doubt in your mind that you were going to rush the field if Baylor pulled the game out?
Is that even a question? If Baylor wins and everyone's rushing the field, I'm rushing the field! There was never a doubt in my mind! I never questioned whether or not I would rush the field, I just had to figure out how I would do it. Fortunately, it worked out for me.
6) We only saw you for a couple of seconds on the field. What happened after that? How far into the mass of humanity did you make it?
I headed right for the middle of the field, I wanted to celebrate like everyone else! I got a head start since I was already on the field, so as soon as I saw people running, I went for it. It's kind of hard to "run" on crutches, so I just went as fast as I could. I made it to the big crowd and before I knew it I was smashed in the middle of hundreds of people! I couldn't really move, so I basically bounced around as people crashed into me and moved around. It was all worth it though, I didn't get hurt and the feeling of celebrating with the team was unreal! I didn't know exactly where I was until everyone started to leave. When it cleared out, I realized I was on the BU in the middle of the field, so I made it pretty far!
7) You're going to save those crutches forever now, aren't you?
Oh yeah, of course! These crutches are famous, I have to keep them now! My friends and I are planning on decorating them green and gold!
8) Who's your pick for Heisman? Andrew Luck, right?
Andrew Luck has nothing on RG3! Stanford has a good team and and he's very talented, but compared to RG3? RG3 will win the Heisman! Enough said!
