QUICK HITS: Michigan 40, Ohio State 34

MICHIGAN WON. For the first time in nearly 3,000 days, Michigan has a victory over Ohio State in football. The Wolverines needed a ton of points to finally get over the hump, but when the dust settled, it was the Wolverines with a 40-34 victory. Denard Robinson was brilliant in victory, throwing for 167 yards and three scores on 14/17 passing and adding 26 rushes for 170 yards and two more TDs. For OSU, Braxton Miller looked like a force to be reckoned with in years to come, going 14-25 for 235 yards and two passing scores while rushing 16 times for 100 yards and other score -- a 19-yard beauty that gave OSU a 17-16 lead.

WHY MICHIGAN WON: Michigan took a page out of Ohio State's gameplan and rushed nearly 75% of the time on Saturday, and it was a recipe for success. Robinson's 170 yards led the team, but Fitzgerald Toussaint added 120 yards of his own on 20 carries, and Ohio State really had no answer on defense for Michigan's physical rushing game. Even Robinson ran with authority, frequently putting his head down and fighting for extra yardage and first downs. His effort was as conspicuous as it was successful, and doubtless his Wolverine teammates fed off that determination.

WHEN MICHIGAN WON: When Courtney Avery intercepted a 4th down Braxton Miller pass with under a minute left. It looked as if Michigan was putting the game away on the prior drive, when Fitz Toussaint and Denard Robinson appeared to score touchdowns on consecutive plays. But Toussaint was ruled down a foot away from the goal line, and Robinson's score was wiped out by a holding call and a personal foul for a late hit, which pushed the Wolverines all the way back to the OSU 26. Brendan Gibbons would eventually convert a field goal from there to push the lead to 40-34, but that six-point margin meant Ohio State still had some life at the end of the game.

WHAT MICHIGAN WON: Michigan beat Ohio State. Wait, let's try that again: MICHIGAN BEAT OHIO STATE. The 10-win season is absolutely nice for the Wolverines, but they've been circling this game on their calendars since time immemorial, and to get a win in this rivalry after eight years of futility is a major, major accomplishment for Brady Hoke and his charges.

WHAT OHIO STATE LOST: Without Terrelle Pryor or Jim Tressel, this was going to be a tough season for Ohio State no matter what, and the 6-6 (3-5) record certainly reflects that. Not many people in Columbus are really holding it against Luke Fickell, necessarily -- again, meeting Ohio State's usual standards of success was a nearly impossible task -- but Fickell at least had the opportunity to turn this year into a one-game season with a game against Michigan. "At least we still own Michigan" would have been a reassuring mantra as OSU fans prepared for a coaching regime change and NCAA punishment, but now Ohio State has to acknowledge that this is now, at long last, a two-team rivalry again.

THAT WAS CRAZY: In the second quarter, Ohio State caught a major break when Michigan punter Will Hagerup muffed a routine long snap. The miscue surprised everyone in the stadium, Hagerup included, and it led to this classic screencap of Hagerup's reaction to the ball in midair. Oh, it also led to a short field and an eventual field goal for the Buckeyes, but we're happier focusing the screencap.

And hey Michigan fans, try playing the best teams in the conference and see if you are "back". How  did you do against Wisconsin? Penn State? Michigan State ? (oh that's right - you actually played them and GOT SMOKED!) Ohio State -close loss on road to Nebraska after Miller got injured, beat Wisconsin at home, close loss on road to MSU, close loss at home to Penn  State.

As if Michigan has  a football program that doesn't cheat. Big difference -RichRod cheated and you still sucked! Your entire athletic department is crooked and has been for years! Hey, why don't you take some pictures of your championship banners or NCAA runner-up trophy from the Fab5? BECAUSE THEY WERE WIPED FROM THE RECORD BOOKS. The Fab 5 era never existed, according to the NCAA.  Steve Fisher was fired!!! "Tractor" Traylor took money from "boosters". Chris Webber, Ed Martin, you remember all that stuff, right? Probably not. Oh, but the football program, that's clean as a whistle.  Yeah right.

The Wisconsin game was at home. In Columbus. Jackass. The Wisconsin game is not THE GAME. Understand now? OSU will kick your asses in basketball, then resume the dominance in football after this blip on the radar when Michigan fans got a perfect storm of NCAA violations and injuries and gracious officiating. But hey, every team that runs for 300 yards in a college game gets only 1 holding call all day, right? So what if that call was with 2 minutes left in the game and with Michigan adding to a lead.

scUM won the game today, but in no way does that mean the rivalry back!
Just the fact that you refer to the UM Wolverines as "scUM" several times in your post would suggest that the rivalry is alive and well.  OSU fans are a bunch of sore losers.  Using excuses like playing with a freshman QB.  They weren't singing that tune when their freshman QB beat a pretty good Wisconsin team.  Get over it OSU fans, you lost.  No excuses.  At least you have basketball to look forward to for the next few months.

OSU caught some major breaks in that game and still lost. That UM TD in the 4th quarter should never have been overturned. That botched punt was also a gift.

Just take your loss and stop making excuses. IF IF IF. You can say it about a multitude of things in this game, particularly if the refs could actually see clearly in a replay booth Michigan wouldve been up 10 with 2 minutes to play.  It was a good game, your QB played fantastic, and your team played incredibly well.  Accept it and move on.

I love how you say don't say if and ten give one of your own. The refs were fairly decent in this game. It was holding it was a late hit. Where's the if come in?

Good luck with your SEC coach. He won't be able to over-recruit in the Big 10 like he did with Florida. One thing about Ohio State...they really love C H E A T E R S!!!!

I would rather lose honestly than to win by cheating. That is THE difference between Michigan and Ohio State. U of M has class!

Oki'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Please allure to me, how did we cheat exactly. Did we have performance enhancers? Did we take cheap shots. How in any way did wat ohio state did have any competitive advantage on the field. We beat you on the field fair and square. Please enlighten me as to how we cheated on the field?

Or more likely, he'll simply continue another Cooper-esque streak.  How'd that work out for Urban last time he played Michigan, in basically a home game?  Does Urban get to cheat like the Vest did when he arrives?

I like the OSU argument. If we did this, if we did that, if Miller was more accurate....well IF grandma had nuts she'd be grandpa!! You guys hang your hat on the last decade but fail to mention that the decade was litered with cheating from your head coach and his bosses! A decade full of inelgible players with promises of cars, kick backs and other NCAA infractions. The list goes on and on!!

Good luck with your SEC coach. He won't be able to over-recruit in the Big 10 like he did with Florida. One thing about Ohio State...they really love C H E A T E R S!!!!
