If there's a head coaching vacancy, odds are that Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin has been brought up as a candidate to fill the position. Arizona State had been one of the many schools interested in Sumlin, but according to a report from a the local Fox television affiliate in Houston, Arizona State is moving on.The report says that Arizona State has broken off talks with Sumlin's agent, Trace Armstrong. The school never had any direct contact with Sumlin during the talks.
"We've dropped from further communication and moved on," a source told the station.
There is no indication as to why the talks have come to an end, but as for where Arizona State will turn next, former Oregon coach Mike Bellotti has been mentioned as a candidate, and current Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz has reportedly expressed interest in the job as well.
