Having already been spurned by Boise State's Chris Petersen, UCLA has moved on in its search for a new head coach to replace Rick Neuheisel, and according to the Los Angeles Times, UCLA is now focusing on Houston's Kevin Sumlin and Miami's Al Golden.

Sumlin, of course, has been linked to just about every job opening there is lately. Still, it seems UCLA's biggest competition for his services would be Texas A&M, and the Aggies are reportedly ready to make an offer to Sumlin. Whether or not UCLA is prepared to make a better offer may be the ultimate factor in where he ends up next season.

With the new television money in the Pac-12, UCLA may be in a better position to match Texas A&M's offer than in the past. All you need to do is look at the deal Washington State gave to Mike Leach to realize that Pac-12 schools have a lot more money to play with.

As for Al Golden, he's a name that hadn't surfaced until now, and though UCLA may be interested I'm not nearly as sure that Golden is interested in leaving Miami. He's made it pretty clear in recent weeks that Miami is where he wants to be.

Secugoheels, I think Fedora will be shooting a little higher than UNC when he makes his move.  No one likes being the FB coach at a BB school.

BigDaddy, I don't think it was Guerrero that hired Neuheisel.

UCLA has to be the last job on anybody's list right now.  They are cheap, have horrible facilities and have to recruit against USC, Arizona State and Oregon.  Until UCLA gets Dan Guerrero out of the way they will continue to flounder.  I want to see Herm Edwards on the sidelines....he makes sense.  With his national presence, he brings instant credibility to a program desperate to change it's culture and have a real identity.  Imagine the impact of Herm Edwards in the living room of recruits, finally someone to give USC a run for their money.  Let's see UCLA get smart here and fire Guerrero and bring in Edwards.

Report: UCLA eyes Kevin Sumlin and Al Golden

I am a Houston Alumni.  I was at the travasty last Saturday.  I am not sure why all these schools want Sumlin.  I can tell you he has not one a big game at UH.  His big win was the Armed Forces Bowl against Air Force two years ago.  That is it.  No conference championships, no big bowl games and lost to important games in and out of conference.  See UCLA last year and UTEP the year before that.  I like Kevin Sumlin he has pushed our program even farther than when Briles was here.  I think he is a really nice guy and a good coach.  Saying that, big conferences was National Championships and big money BCS bowl games wins.  Getting 10 wins a season and going to the Ticket 1 bowl isn't going to cut it.  Right now in Houston that is acceptable but not for long.  I want Sumlin to stay until the stadium is built and we move to a better conference whatever that might be.

UCLA still behind on everything...how could you not fire Neuheisl sooner to get Leach??? why not go after Gary Patterson from TCU? What about Baylor's coach? I'm surprised they didn't court Dennis Erickson or Tom Cable...Epic fail!

Nothing sadder than watching Saban on ESPN begging for a chance to lose to LSU again. Or even worse listening to Vern Lundquist of CBS begging for Alabama. CBS and ESPN sold out the fans for SEC cash! Google boycott BCS and quit watching this garbage. National Championships should be decided on the field not by $$$$ from the SEC.

Didn't Golden already sign a contract extension with Miami?

Golden just signed an extension with the U thru 2020.  Can you imagine (or find out) what the buyout is before even including hi same? It seems like a 0.00001% chance - give it a break...

If it were up to me, I would go after someone else other than Sumlin. One successful season is no indication he can duplicate. He also had a very seasoned and mature (age) QB...was it six years in the program??? Although it's imperative that UCLA find a new coach, there has to be other people for consideration.
