On Tuesday the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) released it's 2011 All-America Team. Which means that these are the best players in the country as chosen by the men who coach for and against them every week. There are five members on this team from Alabama, which is the second most players ever selected from one school in any given season. The most belongs to the 2003 Oklahoma Sooners who had six members on the team.

QB - Andrew Luck, Stanford
RB - Trent Richardson, Alabama
RB - Montee Ball, Wisconsin
WR - Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State
WR - Jordan White, Western Michigan
TE - Orson Charles, Georgia
OL - Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin
OL - Barrett Jones, Alabama
C - Peter Konz, Wisconsin
OL - David DeCastro, Stanford
OL - Levy Adcock, Oklahoma State

DL - Jerel Worthy, Michigan State
DL - Alex Okafor, Texas
DL - Whitney Mercilus, Illinois
DL - Melvin Ingram, South Carolina
LB - Dont'a Hightower, Alabama
LB - Jarvis Jones, Georgia
LB - Lavonte David, Nebraska
DB - Mark Barron, Alabama
DB - Morris Claiborne, LSU
DB - Markelle Martin, Oklahoma State
DB - DeQuan Menzie, Alabama

PK - Randy Bullock, Texas A&M
P - Shawn Powell, Florida State
AP - LaMichael James, Oregon

Justin Blackmon and LaMichael James are the only players on the team who were selected last season.

As for potential snubs, I'm not going to make too big a deal out of any one position because every year there are a lot of players who deserve the honor that don't make the cut. Though I will point out how Robert Griffin didn't make the team, and many are predicting he's going to win the Heisman Trophy. Then there's Tyrann Mathieu who is another Heisman finalist, yet he didn't make the team while his secondary teammate Morris Claiborne did.

I also have to point out that Brad Wing should be the punter on every postseason team this year, I don't care that he's only a freshman.

I gotta say I agree about Brad Wing. He is unbelievable. I also think Joe Adams is the best returner in the country. He will be laughing next year with a fat NFL contract

I don't know if you realize this but he gets a lot of tackles because they throw the ball to his side, and the WR makes the play. Tackles and strips on gang tackles are more bloated stats than what they really are. At the position of defensive back, Claiborne is light years ahead of Mathieu. He doesn't get as many tackles because they don't throw to his side that much and he gets interceptions. Kind of like Bacarri Rambo.....Him and Claiborne, IMO, are the 2 best in the SEC at their positions. Don't need wow factory. Just good defense at the positions. I just find it crazy no one is bringing up his DEFENDING skills. He is good but I see why if wasn't voted. But I know that's the minority view.

In a "bad, bad, bad frame of mind"   is that right DiamondheadBama

Does that mean you are going to kick 4 or maybe 5 fg's. Maybe just maybe if Bama is really pissed this time they could score a TD! I CAN'T  wait the college football world is in for a treat!!!!!

Wow big surprise that a bunch of SEC fans are in here complaining that the whole defense wasn't made up of Alabama and LSU players.

Just be happy Alabama you already got your Christmas present with the NC game.

STOP WHINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mo Claiborne deserves and is one of the top 4 DBs in the nation. Mathieu being left off the list isn't a surprise to me, but with that said I think the honey badger deserves contention if not a clean sweep of the Nagurski, Bednarik, Thorpe, and Maxwell awards. I know he won't win all for the fact that every year there's a diversity of award reciepants, which there should be to give recognition to a few great players instead of just one. His 70 total tackles, 6.5 TFL, 6 FF, 5 FR, 1.5 sacks, 2 int's, 2 DTD, and 2 PR TD's as statistics speak for themselves. A 5'9" 175 lb. defensive back would normally have trouble seeing playing time in 4 or 5 years of eligibility in the NFL bound LSU secondary, but this guy played his true freshman year alongside MO and PP. This year he's seen time at outside corner, nickel corner, and safety, and continued from week to week to make game changing plays while always flying to the ball on every play. I'm 21 years old and while being considered a younger LSU fan, I can't remember in my time of worshiping my tigers, there being a better and more instinctive defensive player on the field. In an ever growing time of bigger, faster, and more freakish athletically gifted players, this said to be too small and too slow of a recruit, has been and still is dominating every game he plays in. 13-0 and taking home the crystal ball...Geaux Tigers.
