Missouri and North Carolina will battle in Shreveport on Monday evening in the Independence Bowl, but unfortunately for both teams, Missouri mascot Truman the Tiger already got his hands on the Independence Bowl trophy. The problem is Truman couldn't keep his hands on the trophy for very long, as he dropped it and broke it. Those are the remnants of the trophy pictured above.

When asked if he broke the trophy, Truman nodded his head and when asked what happened he threw his hands in the air like he just didn't care, and then covered his eyes while crying. So, in the end, he did care.

This is what the trophy looked like before it was broken.

What remains of the Independence Bowl Trophy

Let's be honest--that was one hideous-looking trophy. My kids' little league participation trophies look better.

Sad, but funny. The mascots should be a part of the celebration because they are school icons...but not during the hooplah and mass gatherings after a big victory.  Too many bodies, not enough dexterity in the costume.  Poor kid's gotta feel like a huge tool.

I don't fault Truman for accidentally breaking this trophy.  I find fault in the Athletic Director for allowing somebody in a clumsy clown outfit for holding it in the first place.  The character in question has over-sized feet and hands and limited visibility from the head piece.  And somebody in authority would allow somebody with those limitations to handle a glass or crystal trophy, .... amazing.   On a side note, why are our universities so interested in teaching children that wild animals are really cute and cuddly play things?

The problem with Truman, if he can't stand all the heat for dropping such a beautiful Grape Jelly Jar trophy, he needs to stay the hell out of the Kitchen. It's evident he and Gary Pinkel was out messing around.
