Montee Ball returning to Wisconsin

It wasn't the world's best kept secret, but a day after word began leaking out that Wisconsin running back Montee Ball was planning on returning to Madison for his senior season, the running back made it official on Thursday.

Montee Ball will be a Wisconsin Badger in 2012.

This is great news for Wisconsin, obviously, as Ball was the key component of Wisconsin's offense in 2011, more so than quarterback Russell Wilson. Ball rushed for 1,923 yards and 33 touchdowns for Wisconsin this season, while catching another 24 passes for 306 yards and 6 more scores. His 39 touchdowns accounted for 234 of the 618 points the Badgers scored in their 2011 season, which ended earlier this week with a second consecutive Rose Bowl loss.

Ball could be even more important for the Badgers next season in their quest to get back to Pasadena for the third straight season, as Russell Wilson won't be back and a new quarterback will be under center. A new quarterback that would be well-served to turn around and hand the ball off to the 2011 Heisman finalist as many times as possible.

Had Ball decided to enter the NFL Draft, he would have gone in as the sixth-best running back according to CBSSports.com's Rob Rang, and 80th best prospect overall. Instead he'll be scoring more touchdowns and jumping around in Camp Randall for another season.

it would surely make sense to say that any player in college should graduate before they are allowed to enter the NFL. In your early 20s, one extra year is crucial in terms of life experience and wisom, and whilst I do not claim to have statistics, I am willing to bet that players who stayed through their senior years are far less likely to turn to drugs, firearms, or simply act like morons.

It might just make the players a bit more "real"...

This is great news for Bucky. With Wilson gone and Ball expected to leave, there were many uncertainties for next season. Now their hammer is back for his Senior year. Makes it much easier for the next QB to have success.

Ball gets a chance to break his season TD record of 39 (tied with Barry Sanders). It will be very difficult, as he had one of the best years in NCAA history. Travis Prentice holds the NCAA career record with 73 TDs. Ball could crush it. He has 55 TDs, and only needs 19 to break the all-time record. Expect around 25 TDs next season.

You go Montee!  St. Charles County, MO is proud of you.  In due time, you will be a great back at the next level.  Smart move to stay for now.

The announcement that Montee Ball will return for another season, after all of his accomplishments and obvious NFL credentials, is a selfless thing to do.

I honestly believe that the extra experience will help him in his future NFL career, but what is so pleasing is that he recognizes that he can use more seasoning at a lower level instead of throwing himself into the mix based upon the inflated numbers that he racked up this season.

Best wishes to you Montee Ball.

I like the call, he could be a 1st rounder by the end of next season.  Looked great vs a tough PSU def.

Surprised by this and Landry Jones returning also.  Glad they are both coming back. Hope they both stay healthy and graduate.
