If you had been wondering whether or not the AP Poll would recognize Alabama as this year's national champion or make a statement by keeping LSU ranked at No. 1, well, the answer is right up there for you.

Alabama is on top with LSU right behind them with Oklahoma State, Oregon and Arkansas rounding out the top five.

Also, what's really interesting about the poll aside from Alabama being on top is that Alabama got every first place vote but five. Of those five ballots that didn't put Alabama at the top, only one listed LSU. The other four had Oklahoma State.

The one voter who kept LSU at the top spot was Erik Gee, from KNML in Albuquerque, N.M.. Gee told CBSSports.com's Dennis Dodd in December that it would take "like a 63-0 pasting" by Alabama for the 39-year old radio host to change his vote after the BCS National Championship Game. He believes LSU won the right to the top spot with their performance prior to Monday's 21-0 loss to Alabama, and his final AP Poll vote reflected his firm stance on the issue.

Check out the final AP Poll of the 2011 season below:

1. Alabama (55)
2. LSU (1)
3. Oklahoma State (4)
4. Oregon
5. Arkansas
6. USC

10. Wisconsin
11. Michigan State
12. Michigan

18. Houston
19. Georgia
20. Southern Miss
21. Virginia Tech

Oregon came into the BCS game scoring 49 ppg.  Auburn held the Ducks to 19 points.  Thats 30 POINTS below their season average.  DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.

What's with the "defense wins championships" garbage?  You weren't singing that tune last year when Auburn couldn't stop anybody.  Your SEC homerism knows no bounds.

You guys are killing me with your nonsence!  Ok St. couldnt stay on the field with LSU or Bama.
You don't know that if they don't play the game.  Talk is cheap.

If Bama had won the 1st game ( which they should have )  We wouldnt be talking about all this crap.
Yes we would be talking about it, because in that scenario, 'Bama would have been the only undefeated team going into the post season, and there would have been this great debate about who should play them in the national championship, not to mention, whether or not they'd win against a different opponent.

I refused to watch that game because Okahoma or Houston should have been in that game and LSU would have lost to either one of them. Alabama had a loss already, so they didn't belong in that game and got lucky LSU was cold throughtout the whole game. This was a circus and where else, but New Orleans would that occur.

The best team in the country is champion right now.
That's what sucks about college football. We don't know if that statement would be true were there a I-A championship, and we never will know. Was Alabama the best team? Maybe, but you can also make an argument for LSU or Oklahoma State. Alabama is 1-1 against LSU, and neither played Oklahoma State.

We do know that your statement is not true, because since there is no I-A champion, the champion is North Dakota State. I don't think anybody would claim the Bison are the best team in the country, though.

well - Witchrunner and WildcatJoe; teams that saw the game last night saw 2 pathetic offenses so it brings to question that whole "great defense" argument this year.   Neither QB could hit wide open receivers most of the time; the play calling was so bad that people were calling out what the play was when the teams lined up!   How many negative yardage offensive plays did we see due to poor play calling and/or QB decisions?

Y'all can rant about great defense, but unless your putting it on the field against a great offense, you have little claim other than you won last nights game.  I'm sure Andrew Luck and Brandon Weeden were laughing at their counterparts with Alabama and LSU

I'm so intrigued by this whole argument every year.  I think a lot of you just latch on to whatever you hear other morons say.

"How can you win the National Championship if you don't win your own conference?"

Really?

How can people who feel that way turn around and talk about wanting a tournament?
wildkatjoe,

the difference between football and basketball is -- basketball teams EARN their way into the championship game by beating whoever they have to face in the NCAA tournament.

so there is absolutely no comparison between football and basketball in the NCAA.  the reason why last night's game was the lowest in the history of the BCS is -- everyone already saw the two teams play.  i'm not a fan of either team, but i spent about 20 minutes throughout watching the game in between commercials of the other shows I was watching.

all last night proved is -- 'bama was the better team last night and exectued the game plan Saban put in place.  in the end -- LSU and 'Bama both end up with 1 loss on the year and 1-1 against each other.  how does that make 'Bama the unanimous National Champ??? makes no sense what so ever.  and like i said -- i'm not a fan of either team, just a college football fan.
