Florida head coach Will Muschamp was reportedly blindsided by the news that Charlie Weis was accepting the head coaching position at Kansas. On Wednesday, the Gators' head coach filled that opening on his staff with the hiring of Boise State's Brent Pease as offensive coordinator.

Pease, who will also coach the Florida quarterbacks, spent the previous six seasons on Chris Petersen's staff at Boise State. The 47-year-old assistant started his coaching career after a stint playing quarterback in the NFL, serving as an offensive coordinator at Montana, Northern Arizona, Kentucky, and Baylor before joining the Broncos' staff in 2006.

“I’m excited to join the University of Florida football family and The Gator Nation,” Pease said in an official release. “I’ve always had the utmost respect for Coach Muschamp and the UF program and I’m honored to have the opportunity to work at one of the premier institutions in the nation.

"I look forward to working with a tremendous coaching staff and, from what I hear, a great group of eager, young football players. Coach Muschamp and I share a lot of the same philosophies so this was a perfect fit. I want to be multiple in our offensive formations and have a balanced attack with tempo. I firmly believe in being fundamentally sound and red-zone efficient. I want to develop our players in a pro-style offense that can help them at the next level. ”

In his time at Boise State the Broncos posted a 73-6 record, won four conference championships, and made six postseason appearances - including two Fiesta Bowl wins. After coaching the wide receivers for five seasons, to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks' coach before the 2011 season following Bryan Harsin's departure for Texas. Under Pease's guidance, Maxwell Award winner Kellen Moore finished off his decorated career as the winningest quarterback in FBS history.

There will be high expectations for the entire Florida staff for a bounce back in 2012, but especially for the offense. The Gators were ranked tenth in the SEC in total offense in 2011, only better than Ole Miss and Kentucky. The unit was not helped by a revolving door at quarterback and injuries to key playmakers, but the fans in the Swamp are not used to performances like the 184 yards of total offense in a 21-7 loss to Florida State at home.

Muschamp will speak to the media Wednesday afternoon to discuss the hire, be sure to follow Gators RapidReports for further updates.

never once did i proclaim to be an expert. not once. all you have done is dodge all my points and fail to address them. explain to me how muschamp was supposed to successfully inmplement a pro style offense with a bunch of spread players. please explain it to me. you cannot judge a coach till his 4th year, once his first recruiting class are seniors. and people saying driskell would start this year were just hopeful because everyone was frustrated with brantley and is glad to have a fresh start. and i wont be going anywhere. but i dont want to hear excuses when florida comes back within the next 2 seasons. so u make sure u stick around.

Yes, he was at BSU for many years but he was only the OC for one. Sorry Florida fans but Peterson and Harsin are/were the real minds behind BSU's great offense. Still, Pease has to be better than fat charly...

Again, he was OC for Kentucky in 2001 and 2002.  In 2002 he had the Kentucky Wildcats ranked 23rd in the nation and 1st in the SEC in scoring offense...and yes, that was at Kentucky. So last year at BSu was not his only experience as OC...so all this talk of "duuurrrr well he just took over with the old BSu OCs' philosophy so thats why he was successful" is false garbage.

swamp15 - since your evidentally and expert on football with all the "data" your throwing out, and seem to know a little about how to read these postings, try looking back at last year's postings (when Urban was coach).  You will see all the responses proclaiming Brantley was not going to be the QB, since Driskell was so great.  That my good fellow is FACT.  Lets see how the next few years play out - and remember to respond back to me once the Gators lose to the TOP teams in the SEC - and don't run and hide like most do.  Funny how fans, even though they say they are true fans, and evryone else is haters, don't seem to remember alot once things start heading downhill.  Enjoy the bumpy ride.

SWAMP15 - typical gator fan.  No one knows what thier talking about, blah, blah, blah.  You guys have all the excuses in the world.  Own up to the fact that Muschump was a horrible hire, and the Gators have fallen down to the middle to lower part of the SEC, and will REMIN there.  Check some of the trends from last year, that said all the Gators problems would be solved when Driskell arrived?  As I said, excuses, excuses, excuses.

Gotta love it. Florida (SEC) who all their fans who rip Boise State- calling them several names. Hires a Boise State offensive coordinator/QB coach to become their offensive coordinator/QB coach.

Irony?

No, not irony - incompetence. Sure, he was OC at kentucky for 2 years, then 4 years at Baylor and averaged about 330 yards and 30 points a game. I think he had one winning season during that span. The last 6 he's been at boise, studying up on the spread offense. Yes, they did fine this year with him as OC, but he inherited the team and the playbook. Kudos for that, but now Muschamp wants him to run the "pro-style" offense at Florida. Who's playbook is he going to use? That's right, Weiss's playbook. How can anyone expect the outcome to be any better? Wasn't Weiss some kind of offensive genius, according to all the experts?

The fellas are going to flame me for not being a good little Gator fan, but this choice has "disaster" written all over it. I'm looking forward to a rousing 4-8 season in 2012, if we're lucky. If not, we could lose to Vandy and Kentucky for the first time in eons and have a record to rival Charlie Pell's first year.

Give 'em Hell, Pell!

the only problem with this hire is theye guy cannot bring the graduated boise state quarterback with him. to go from mid major to coaching the speed and type of atheletes florida can recruit must be a joy to this guy. also will probably like the pay.

Surely a Boise St coach didn't "sell out" and come to the all evil SEC? No way anyone out there would want to come to that overrated conference, right? How could he do Boise like that? He has to love Boise more than anyone, right? We're America's sweetheart that always gets shafted, right?
WRONG!
