In a unanimous decision of all 12 university presidents, the Pac-12 has decided to extend the contract of Commissioner Larry Scott through 2016, with options to add two more years in the future.

“My fellow board members and I are delighted to have reached a long-term agreement with the commissioner to continue his excellent work on behalf of the Pac-12,” said Ed Ray, President of Oregon State University and Chairman of the Pac-12 Board in an official release. “We are on the brink of a period of extraordinary accomplishment and excellence throughout the Pac-12 and Larry’s continued leadership and vision for the Conference are critical elements in realizing that potential.”

Scott became commissioner of the Pac-12 in July 2009, after serving six years as Chairman and CEO of the Sony Erricsson WTA Tour. In his first two years with the conference, Scott has rebranded and reshaped the Pac-12's standing among the major NCAA conferences. He led the league through the first expansion since 1978, negotiated a record-setting media rights agreement with FOX and ESPN, is responsible for the creation of the Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Digital Network, and helped delver equal revenue sharing for the first time in conference history.

Larry Scott, 47, has been praised for his innovation and leadership during arguably one of the most volatile periods for major conferences in college athletics. The media rights deal and creation of the Pac-12 Network has changed the landscape for negotiations in the future, and recently developed a globalization initiative "that will allow the conference to pursue new frontiers for member institutions."

Pac-12 extends Larry Scott's contract through '16

This is a great decision by the Pac-12 and will help bring the conference back to being one of the top tier conferences in the country. Scott has already landed multi-million dollar television contracts and is creating more national exposure with the Big Ten/Pac-12 football scheduling that will be coming in 2013 (I think). He initiated the expansion of the conference to 12 teams and had all of the other conferences scrambling to follow. He's a visionary with great media knowledge and an Ivy league education. Being a UA alum, I am excited to hear this.

Pac-12 extends Larry Scott's contract through '16

With the PAC12 playing barely up to a Mid-Major level in Basketball, much of the BCS in basketball talk has subsided this year. The PAC12 is in bad shape with Larry Scott at the controls.
So Larry Scott is the reason Pac 12 basketball sucks this year? Whew. That's a relief. This whole time I blaming coaching and players. With this new revelation I can now displace all responsibility towards the conference itself, and, of course, the money. Our teams are actually fine.

It actually makes sense. After all, I've always felt that when children misbehave it isn't necessarily the fault of the children, and certainly not the parents. Most of the problem is the school systems and I blame the school board. Same concept.

Pac-12 extends Larry Scott's contract through '16

i think the guy did adecent enough job for the pac 12. more important than that for college football fans is the coaches that the pac 12 got the last year. those coaches will produce some good teams that will be fun to watch. it will be real tough for one schoo, to win it year after year.

"Under the direction of Larry Scott the PAC-12 has made tremendous strides. The PAX-12 is one of the premier conferences of college conferences."  I guess you don't follow college hoops, huh?

I am glad to see that Larry Scott has received an extension of his contract. He deserves this more than anyone I know.

Under the direction of Larry Scott the PAC-12 has made tremendous strides. The PAX-12 is one of the premier conferences of college conferences.

With the expansion to 12 teams, which I was not in favor of, has exceeded beyond expectation.

Then the TV contracts and the amount of revenue it generated for the conference is beyond belief.

One think he did that I was in favor of was to give an equal share of the revenue to each school member and not on a scale with some teams receiving more than others. I think this make better sense and would allow each team to compete financially equally.

 @Eirespal

Good narrative concerning the conversation between the commissioner and the college presidents. Very well done.

Pac-12 extends Larry Scott's contract through '16

This was a no-brainer.  For some reason I don't see any P12 president voting no to the extension of the man who just brokered the biggest media contract ever.

Larry Scott:  "Gentlemen, it's been a successful couple of years with you. Isn't it about time we extend my contract?"

P12 Presidents: "Um, well, what makes you think you earned it?"

Larry Scott: "Well, I did just make you Billions of dollars."

P12 Presidents: "Yeah. I guess that's true. But these are tough times. Maybe we could wait until the end of your current deal and then talk."

Larry Scott: "Okay. That's fine. Hey, did you guys see the Big 12 is looking for a commissioner?"

P12 Presidents:  "Yes...yes we did. You know what? Perhaps we were a bit hasty. Why don't we extend your contract now?"

Larry Scott: "That works."
