Former Alabama cornerback and 2012 NFL Draft prospect Dre Kirkpatrick did himself no favors with potential employers by getting charged with possession of marijuana less than a week after declaring for the draft. But according to the Sports Business Journal's Liz Mullen, the charges against Kirkpatrick have been dropped.

The details of the arrest indicate that Kirkpatrick claimed to be unaware of the drugs' presence when he was a passenger in a truck driven by former Alabama player Chris Rogers. The vehicle was pulled over in Bradenton, Fla. after being spotted driving on the wrong side of the road.

Kirkpatrick is listed as the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2012 NFL Draft, and Rob Rang has the Tide cornerback drafted by Dallas at No. 14 in his most recent NFL Mock Draft. Pro Football Talk's Evan Silva suggested that the arrest likely would not affect Kirkpatrick's draft stock, but the dropped charges should assist in putting this matter away and moving forward.

Report: Charges against Dre Kirkpatrick dropped

"I don't understand how it's even possible to have the charges dropped? I mean if you were actually arrested anf found to be in posession, how can you later be found not to have been in possession?  It doesn't make sense. It's like sayin you did it, and we know you did, but we are going to proceed as if you didn't do it"

You must be a sheltered little dude from the 'burbs where the police would never falsely charge a nice little rich kid like you. Anyone with any experience at all in the criminal justice system knows police make mistakes too; some more than others. This sounds like one where the cops over-charged. He wasn't in actual possession; and they didn't have sufficient evidence of constructive possession. I hate taking up for a Bammer-Gump turd: but you need to let your brain out of it's little cage more often and try to get what's happening in the real world.

If it was not his he should not have been charged in the first place.  Being in the car with someone that is carrying does not mean you are guilty.

Good thing for Kirkpatrick he wasn't named Mallett or went to Arkansas.  Otherwise CBS et alia would crucify him.

Did the other guy get arrested then?  If he was charged with posession also it makes sense then.
