America, your long wait is over! On Tuesday morning, barely two hours after West Virginia officially joined the conference, the Big 12 finally released its schedule for the 2012 season.

It's everything you could have hoped for. It has games on it, scheduled to be played on certain dates between specific opponents!

There are just too many great games on the docket to go over all of them, but here are the major dates.

- TCU will play its first Big 12 conference game in Lawrence against Kansas on September 15th. Can the Horned Frogs overcome Charlie Weis' decided schematic advantage? We'll find out! TCU's first conference home game will be on October 6th against Iowa State.

- Baylor will be the first Big 12 team to play a conference game in Morgantown, facing West Virginia on September 29th. West Virginia's first road test comes a week later, and will not be easy, as the Mountaineers head to Austin to face Texas on October 6th.

- Oklahoma and Texas will get together for their annual Football Hate And Fried Foods Festival in Dallas on October 13th.

- Oklahoma State will begin it's Big 12 title defense against Texas in Stillwater on September 29th. Five of Oklahoma State's first seven conference games will be at home, but the Cowboys finish the regular season on the road against Oklahoma and Baylor.

- Texas Tech and Iowa State are the only two teams in the conference who won't have a bye week between conference games, playing every weekend from September 29th through November 24th.

- Texas won't be playing anybody on Thanksgiving night, but will play TCU in Austin the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Big 12 schedule finally released

My guess is Kirby Hocutt doesn't get to sit at the grown up table during Big 12 meetings.  Perhaps he sits with the 11th and 12th chairs in silence, and is too far away from the big boys to hear clearly.  When the Texas Tech AD said last Thursday that the following day the schedule would be released, which was followed on Friday by a Texas Tech mobil app reflecting Texas Tech's 2012 schedule, perhaps Hocutt was just hoping for 1 of the 8 apparent schedules being considered (although he sure sounded certain that Tech's schedule was set and that only minor adjustments were left outstanding, and he also added in his Thursday discussion with media an explanation for why teams would play after Dec. 1 during championship week).  Texas Tech's schedule is much worse than what the mobil app. had from last week, and Tech is not involved in a game during Championship Week, as was the case v. Texas in the mobil app schedule that came out last Friday.  Hance prevails over ineptitude, just as he was appointed by the inept Rick Perry.

Big 12 schedule finally released

The ideas of conference rivals are so messed up nowadays. The Big 12, which represented the great plains states, now includes a mining state from the Applachian mountains. To me, conferences used to symbolize a region of the country. The Big 10 used to represent the Ohio Valley area, the SEC showcasing schools from the deep south, the Pac 12 represented the West Coast, and the Big East represented the East Coast. Now the Big East is basically another confernece USA with teams from Milwaukee, Memphis, and rumors of adding San Diego State for football.

The Big East doesn't belong in those areas, and neither does WVU in the Big 12. Their nearest conference opponent is Iowa State. It's one thing when a team's farthest opponent is 1500 miles away like Miami to Boston, but it's another when you nearest opponent is over 700 miles away! At least Miami and Georgia Tech aren't too far apart, and teams like Marquette and DePaul are nearby, but the fact that WVU is so far away is hard on the students. The NCAA and the schools are so full of themselves when they state "This is for the students." The fact they already market millions of dollars off these college kids is insane as it is, now they are going to be traveling like a pro-team all year. The difference between the Dallas Cowboys players is they are paid to travel around the country and compete. The Cowboys players don't have to juggle school and athletics at the same time. The college landscape has become a sick joke.

Well, apparently you aren't much of a fan. If you want to follow the prima donnas, no one is stopping you. I'm following my team regardless of conference affiliation or which teams happen to be members at the time.

Does conference affiliation make sense any more? No, but college football is still a great game with plenty of drama every week. With all if its flaws, its far more interesting than the pro game any day of the week.

Key word in your statement is drunk. Because that is the only way you would ever see Texas beat Oklahoma the way Oklahoma has been demolishing Texas. Sooners rule!!!!

Big 12 schedule finally released

Speaking of which I think this whole travel thing is well overblown. Nobody has made a stink about BC travelling to Miami yet (1500 miles each way).

Big 12 schedule finally released

Sign me up for that 23 hour 1400 miles bus trip from Morgantown, WV to Austin, TX on Oct 3rd, 4th and 5th to get to that Oct 6th game against UT.  Hopefully we will get to stop at the Jack Daniels Factory tour,  Grand Old Opry in Nashville and the Bill Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas.   Hee Haw!
