Tee Martin joining USC staff as WR coach

Maybe if this whole football thing doesn't work out for Matt Barkley he can give journalism a try. The USC quarterback broke some news on Wednesday night by tweeting that Tee Martin was joining USC's staff as wide receivers coach.

News that CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman was able to confirm on Wednesday night.

Tee Martin had spent the last two seasons in the same position at Kentucky, though he was also promoted to passing game coordinator before last season. Martin had been a popular target among coaching staffs across the SEC for his ability as a coach and his recruiting ability as well.

Though most college football fans likely remember Martin as the quarterback of the 1998 Tennessee team that won its first national championship in 47 years.

Now, ironically enough, Martin leaves Kentucky, a rival of Tennessee's, to take a job at USC. The same USC that lured Lane Kiffin away from Tennessee. A move that didn't exactly make Kiffin a popular name in Knoxville.

So next time Martin is in Knoxville, he might want to have that championship ring on display for self-defense.

Sounds like a good hire and a slick face-slap/back at you on top of it.

I think there may be more to Kiffin than meets the eye.LOL

All of this Kiffin animosity is dead to me. That was two years ago and Vol fans need to move on, I have. And to the wise guy commenting that Tee's stint in New Mexico was a failure, name me ANYONE who had success there? USC just nabbed a great hire. Tee will do nothing but get better there as a coach and recruiter. Kudos to USC.

I wish Tee Martin all the luck one would be able to wish on a coach. He has the right players in place that would make him a hero in the coaching world if he were able to maintain the trend we are currently on with our wide outs and interior receivers.

I do not think he would be able to find a better crop of receivers in the college ranks today. There are even those receivers on the team that would be here for the next 3-4 years that would be sitting and watching on this team.

He also has the trajectory that would deliver the missiles to these receivers by the name of Barkley.

Not only that, but also this would be their second year together, so they are familiar with each other and will only get better. Before the season start they would have the spring and fall practice together, which should only make them better with route running. In addition, lanes to throw the ball.

Good for Tee! I wish him nothing but the best. Good move for him and his family. Dooley should have hired him when he had a chance.

Report: Tee Martin joining USC staff

I love Tee Martin regardless of this move.  He gave his all as a player, and was a great leader on that team.  As for Kiffin, I don't want a coach that clearly doesn't want to be here.  I put that horrific hire more on former AD Mike Hamilton.  You don't fire Fulmer, a loyal guy that bleeds orange and won a national title, unless you have a home run hire in hand.  That blew up in his face, and is a big reason why Hamilton's gone.
