We've already learned that Urban Meyer has reclaimed the "Team Up North" euphemism for his Buckeyes' hated rivals at Michigan, possibly in response to Brady Hoke's "Ohio" euphemism for the school and team its alumni will be quick to tell you is the Ohio State University. But it turns out Meyer is interested in getting in his jabs at the Wolverines in more ways than just avoiding the name.

This is a sign that appeared in the front of OSU's Woody Hayes Athletic Center last week:

Yes, that's a list of majors for Ohio State's football players on the left, and those for the "Team Up North" on the right, with the (alleged) number of Wolverines in General Studies (and Engineering, Biology, and Business at the bottom) having been highlighted.

We are not going to wade into the merits of Meyer's argument, one we have zero doubt is already being waged by both Ohio State and Michigan fans in various corners of the Internet as we speak. More important from our perspective is that this is an argument Meyer wants to wage, too--that he is willing to tell visitors to the WHAC (which notably include both recruits and their parents) that the "Team Up North" isn't challenging its players academically. (Incidentally, Meyer wouldn't be the first coach to make this exact argument; former Wolverine great Jim Harbaugh did the same during his tenure at Stanford.)

It's one thing to talk about a rival as the biggest game of the year, call them by a different name, or even talk a little smack about a winning streak. But to essentially call out another school's academic handling of its players in semi-public fashion is something else. We're neither condemning nor condoning the poster; as we said, we'll leave to that to the partisans on either side.

What we can say is that whether it's Meyer, Hoke, new Michigan signee Ondre Pipkins or anyone else on either side of the rivalry, the heat between the Wolverines and Buckeyes is rapidly approaching that of the Hayes-Schembecler glory years ... and as fans of spicy college football, that much, at least, we can endorse wholeheartedly.

It's been a busy couple of days around Columbus and Ann Arbor; Gordon Gee and his magic mouth are at it again, the Wolverines just scored the biggest single recruiting weekend in the country this year, and Meyer's Gainesville home is for sale.

Couldn't agree more with you mediaSux, which is why I was making fun of the sign.  If you want to make fun of Michigan that is fine because we make fun of Ohio.  Just do a better job when you are doing it.  I was mocking the sign for two reasons.  First he didn't list all the players majors.  Both teams have a heck of a lot more players than the number that was listed.  Secondly, he shouldn't have listed anything about crime on Ohio's side.  No brainer to make fun of that.  Meyer can do a better job than this poster.

Ohio State is really good at lieing, thus the 1 year Bowl Ban, reduction in scholarships. vacating of all 2010 wins, vacating of their Sugar Bowl win, forcing out of their head coach, and their star QB having to leave early.  OSU fails to tell you that a 72% of Michigan players graduated while only 60% did for OSU, and that the board above is filled on OSU's side by mostly walk-on players.

You people are funny, someof the posts on here are hurtin me.....why so serious?.....lighten up,some of you act like offended by a stupid little sign....Urban wins again...and UM fans remember.... recruits are fair game and many change their mind before they sign the dotted line as we see every year all over the country these kids pick another school right before signing......don't hold your breath or bet the farm.

I give up - how is communication better than general studies?

General studies is the easiest route to go in college.  I am not saying communication is much harder but it is definately not the easiest and the numbers are different between the two also.

I speak for all Buckeye fans when I say this to Buckeye4sure...Buddy, I enjoy your passion and enthusiasm, truly...I'd like to bottle that up and sell it on High Street in C-Bus.  However, you cannot start knocking general studies and college-accredited courses in general while spewing out typos, mis-spelled words, and poor grammar like that...it gives those Northerners too much ammunition as a poster for "Irony".  Also, ALL CAPS and BOLD are never welcome.  Step up your game, love the enthusiasm, but bring an "A" effort next time.

Cheers to the kid at UM that can't tie his shoes and that stupid "eating" celebration motion he kept showing this past November, because I say to you Denard...that will be crow you are munching next November in Columbus.  As we say in Cleveland referencing that horrible State up North...head West 'til you smell it, then North 'til you step in it! Go Bucks!

Brady Hoke was going to post a list of meyer's players at Florida who were arrested under his watch but Staples didn't have enough poster boards to list them all.

meyer is a perfect fit at ohio, he turns his head to his criminal players and the ohio administration covers up for them.

HAIL TO THE VICTORS.

I see he didn't bother to put all the majors of the players on the list and he had to do some fudging of the numbers that he did list, not unlike him to blur the lines is it.  I wonder how his players that are majoring in other areas feel.  I did find it funny that he listed criminology for Ohio.  That is probably a good thing since a large number of their players end up in trouble with the law and in jail, hehe.  They are planning ahead I guess, which is  a good thing.  This one was too easy Urban.  Redo your list to make you guys look better.
