Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times reports the Tampa Bay Rays are interested in signing former Texas Ranger infielder Hank Blalock to a minor league deal. The Florida Marlins have shown interest, too.

Blalock, 29, hit .259 with 152 home runs and 535 RBI during his eight seasons with Texas. The left-handed hitter struggled with a .234 average last season, finishing with 25 homers and 66 RBI in 495 plate appearances.

DL Status -- Hamilton, Reyes, Ramirez

The Dallas Morning News reports OF Josh Hamilton is scheduled for an MRI.  He's hoping to avoid a second stint on the DL and GM Jon Daniels said Hamilton is seeing Dr. Preskitt so the Rangers can rule out a hernia.

According to the New York Post, Jose Reyes could be activated from the DL by Friday.  He would be evaluated on Thursday after playing in St. Lucie and, barring a setback, join the Mets on Friday in Washington.

A report in the Chicago Sun-Times suggests that offseason surgery is still an option for Cubs' 3B Aramis Ramirez.  He's hoping to rejoin the Cubs after the All-Star break.
