You know what streetcar, man, i'am to the point where I feel like get rid of joe's contract no matter the cost. This current team has reached their peak, if it stays the way it is get ready for another 1st rd exit.  I hope the deal gets done, but i'am not holding my breath.

I don't care what the Nets give us...yeah all 4 of those players are no good.  But in the NBA and the salary cap you make trades for two reasons...1 is to trade talent for talent and 2 is the one the Hawks fall into and that's freeing up cap space to make a splash and big move next season.  The reality is the Hawks are not winning a championship or getting past the 2nd round with this current core and if this trade goes down they will not either...but I still think they could do just as good as the previous cast did...2nd round material.  Teague and Horford have gains in their game to elevate and beome better scorers.  Teague can take his game to 18-20 pts a game and Horford from around 10-12 to 16 range easily.  I'm crossing my fingers this deal gets done and Howard stays out of Brooklyn.

I see Danny Ferry working and I'm liking the direction he appears to be heading...it's not a lock...but so far I'm liking it.  If indeed the Hawks get Rashard Lewis that tells me that Marvin gets the amnesty...another good move.  I didn't think Joe would be able to get moved with his contract so I've been screaming for the amnesty to come down on him.  But if Ferry can trade Joe and amnesty Marvin and get back some role players who can help a little this year and get them off the books after this season...then the Hawks free up roughly 30 million and become big players in next year's free agency.  These moves would also open the door for more possible trades because of many expiring contracts/cap space.

All in all it would be a dream situation for the Hawks and Danny Ferry if we can move Joe and then amnesty Marvin.  I couldn't ask for a better scenario.  Don't be concerned about what we get from the Nets..it has to be done in order to truly move forward.

If the Hawks can pull Brooks and a future #1 pick...which is the latest rumor from the Nets (along with the other 4 role players) that would just be icing on this fabulous freakin cake!

Agreed, MarShon Brooks has to be part of the deal, that will be the tall tale sign of what kinda negotiator Danny Ferry really is for the organization.  I actually like Anthony Morrow, he is a local guy from Charlotte who can shoot the rock.  However, we addressed shooters in the draft by passing on PJIII for John Jenkins, so we need to get more physical inside guys like Brandon Bass, JJ Hickson, Anthony Randolph, are some young big men we could use.  The make up of this team is not bad ,it is the fact we are so strapped for case we cannot even afford to sign decent role players.  The proof is this year we only have a handful of guys under contract, we had no bench play at all so when you have a serious injury that problem is amplified.

What did you guys think of our draft picks?

Trade is going down!!!!  Didn't get Brooks but who cares....Ferry had to jump on this while the opportunity was there.  Also picked up a lottery protected pick (via Houston).  Next step will be to amnesty Marvin Williams.  Nicedly done Ferry....keep it rolling!!!

I think the Hawks surely need an athletic big...someone like Hickson would fit the bill.  Question becomes this though...is Ferry done?  Is Josh Smith going to get moved?  The Lakers are wanting a 1st round pick plus Josh Smith for Gasol...I would laugh at that offer and I'm sure that's what Ferry did.  There would still be PLENTY of teams that would love Smith...with Johnson coming off the books and most likely Marvin getting amnestied, I have zero problem with the Hawks keeping Smith.  Everyone says we need a center so we can move Horford to the 4.  Not really true...the NBA is really no longer a big man league.   Getting an athletic big who likes to hit the glass would do just fine.  I love Zaza's heart and toughness...but the Hawks have to get more athletic up front off the bench.

With Joe being moved I still think the Hawks will be just as good...and possibly even better without him.  I don't want to hate on Joe too much...he surely did some good things...but his constant dribbling just killed this offense.  More posting up from Horford and Smith...Teauge continue to improve...and I like the shooters we have now from the outside.  Man it feels good to see the Hawks make some moves and not be happy with 1st/2nd round and done!

Utah has plety of big men on the bench we could not pull Favors, Kanter, Milsap, ....somebody ...anybody? Now we have 3 PG's on the roster ...not getting Brooks is a bummer in the deal I would have let them keep a 1st rd pick for Brooks.

AWESOME!!!

Ok so now we got rid of the burden of Joe's contract... We also got rid of a positive (he could hit a shot when we needed it) and a negative (most unathletic 2 in the league and a clock killing ball pounder)... We also got rid of one of the most lethargic guys in the league in Williams.  Go Hawks Go

I'm not sure we aren't better without these guys, even by getting 'spare parts'... Getting rid of Joe will let other guys develop and take ownership in this team. Maybe they fail, but it was beyond time to change things drastically.

And BTW, why in the world would the Lakers think Gasol is worth more than Smith? Makes no sense. Gasol is on his way down and quite frankly was never a dominate player. As many issues as I have had with Smith at times, I would never make that deal. And especially wouldn't give up a draft pick on top of it!!

It looks like the Hawks will take some serious lumps this season, then try to hit the jackpot in free agency next year. Might as well try to dump Josh Smith for a lottery pick or something so that our 1st rounder will acutally be worth something. Appologize to Horford for having to struggle through this coming season alone and hope that he will be enough to entice Chris Paul and Dwight Howard to form a big 2.5.

Can't really say right now what the roster will look like...because Ferry may well not be done yet moving guys.  Farmar will be bought out of his contract.  I love Horford but I wouldn't rule out Ferry offering a package including Al and Teague to bring in you know who.  I know Dwight has never expressed interest in playing in his hometown...let's be real...who could blame him.  But things are different now...and that is a huge understatement.  Throw in the fact that Josh Smith and Dwight are boys and you just never know.

I know one thing Hawks fans...right now the Hawks are basting in the spotlight and I'm loving it.  This is really a first for the Hawks franchise and it's exciting so soak it up Hawks fans....we deserve it!

Question...   Why must the Hawks take serious lumps???? What did I miss? We traded Joe.. A really nice player with limitations.. We traded Marvin who is basically a reserve..

I'am going to disney world BABY!! I'am going to disney world! I just got of work and boy am i pumped. You are right rock, i don't think ferry is done. I never thought i would say this, but the Hawks got it right for once. Ferry doesn't have to do another thing and he would have my vote for G.M of the year. Unloading two massive contracts and freeing up millions.

Now let's get after Hickson or randolph, get some size down low. It's been a long time since i felt excitement about the hawks. Pretty sure you all feel that way.

Guys..i was just thinking, are the Hawks trying to assemble their own big 3, smooth, paul and d-12. Paul did just turn down a 3 yr deal for 60 mill a few days ago. But that bubble burst right away.  chris broussard is reporting that the Nets and Magic are in discussing right now, for a trade that would send howard to the nets for humpries, lopez, brooks and 3 furture first rd picks.

Oh well..it was nice to dream of for a little while.

With just the 2 major trades Ferry has made, the Hawks have options...and lots of them.  They have created future cap space...they have expiring contracts galore...and they also still have major trade pieces in Teague, Horford and Smith.  I just can't see the Magic taking that deal from the Nets.  Yes they would get 3 1st round picks...but those picks would be late first round picks.  Lopez/Brooks or Horford/Teague.

Even if the Hawks don't get Howard the Hawks are in great shape to make some noise in free agency or through trades.  One thing that would concern me with Dwight is the back problem that is starting to become....a problem.

For those that think the Hawks will be awful this year are dead wrong and I say that with my Hawk goggles off.  If the offseason ended today, I still think the Hawks are a playoff team.  Aside from moving Joe's contract, this team and offense will benefit from Joe killing the ball movement and trying to go one on one every chance he got.

Ferry has positioned this team to make more major moves either this offseason or sit tight a bit and make the noise next offseason...either way, this franchise just pulled a 180 from 48 hours ago.

Yes JJ killed ball movement, but who's going to replace the 30-35 points per night that JJ and Starvin Marvin put up (combined)? Harris will help, but its not like the Hawks have a lot of promising options coming to them in the trade, although Morrow can shoot the 3, and the rookie can't be expected to produce more than maybe 10 points per game. Unless this allows Smith and Horford to significantly increase their production (doubtful unless Smoove somehow drains all his rediculous 3 attempts), I don't see how this year's team will be as good as the teams of the past 3 seasons.

30 pts a night can be made up.  Surely not by one guy but as a whole it can.  Keep in mind we are very early in this NBA offseason and this is not the finished product.  Right off the bat Morrow and Harris can each give you double figures.  No they are not going to get 20pts a game apiece, but if they stick around they will both average 10+ a game in my opinion.  If Teague and Horford stay I see both of them upping their averages.  Again, so early right now to really talk about it, but the offense would run through Josh Smith either posting or taking his man off the dribble...which will not only create better ball movement because Smith is a good passer and able to find the open man...but the Hawks have upgraded their outside shooting so far.

Teague could easily go from 12-14 a game to 18-22...he has that in his game.  There were times last year where he played very passive.  Horford showed in the playoffs (less than 100%) that given the opportunity he can become more than a 10-12 pts a game player.  His 15-18 foot jumper his improved steadily and he is becoming deadly with it.  Horford could easily go to 16-18 minimum.

Good to talk about it...but this puzzle is not complete yet.  Let's just say your right SoutherNole and the Hawks struggle big time this year.  It's still a positive in my eyes because if the Hawks stood pat with their core they were going to stay stuck in neutral and continue drafting in that 20+ range in the draft.  If they have a bad year then you go into NEXT offseason with a draft pick that could make a nice impact and your also going into next offseason with alot of $ to go shopping.

In the end...whether it's closer to your opinion or mine, the Hawks will be closer to getting an NBA championship and that's what it's all about.

Actually when joe was out for about three weeks, the Hawks played well without him. Josh Smith numbers went up big time remember. Everybody will have to step up. Now that i think about it, smooth carried the team in that span, almost by himself. because horfold was out also. And the hawks still had a winning record, without joe and horfold, true it was for only three weeks, but they stepped up.

Of coarse we are not going to win the championship, but we won't suck ass either.
