Well, that's a double fail.  A magazine of any size doesn't change a non-military weapon into a military weapon.  Nor does a magazine size change the quickness in which a gun causes death.

1) Quite often, yes.  Though that rationalization has been used many a time to justify infringing on our rights - see PATRIOT Act, if you need a recent example.

Safety is OFTEN used as the argument for restricing Liberty.

In much of the rest of the world BOMBS are used for mass murder.  Those are illegal, too.   

OK czimmy, I admit you were right.  More suicide deaths from guns than homocides.  Of course that does not include those who recover from their gunshots wounds.  Whereas over 90% of attempted suicides with guns are successful, less than 30% of gunshot wounds which are not self-inflicted results in death.  So, many more people are shot with guns by someone else than by themsleves.  Hospitals are (fortunately) able to save many of their lives.

I'd believe that.  Another alarming statistic is the % of gunshot wounds which are caused by the victim or victim's family member.
If you were a social darwinist you might consider this as the removal of a certain gene type from the future gene pool, but I'm not sure. 

I read something else recently about Switzerland.  It's often said that because they have one of the highest gun ownership rates in the world they have one of the lowest street crime rates in the world.  What I just found out is that they also have one of the highest suicide rates and domestic homicide rates in the world.

Guns are dangerous.  There are plenty of stupid people.  Bad things are bound to happen, but I'm still not for banning guns.

This number has actually increased since.  In 2010, there were 19,392 gun deaths by suicide, to 11,078 homicides by firearm (from the CDC).  So of the 30,470 total, only 36.4% were homicides, and the other 63.6% are suicides.
