I'm sick and tired.......

July 14, 2008 1:04 am

I'm sick and tired of sports bars in Boise.

I went off on this last year.  It hasn't gotten any better.

I've spent more time at The Crescent, and have discovered their food and the price ain't bad.  In fact, for food and drink it ends up being better value overall than Ticket Stubs. Just hope you don't get the server or bartender with the attitude problem.  At Buster's I like the unlimited fries you can get when you order a sandwich or burger.

But I can't go into a sports bar in this town on any given night and actually watch a game (except for Stubs).  If it isn't a premier sporting event they will not have the volume turned up. They always have the juke box playing.  What's the point of going to the place if I can't watch & hear the game?  And for baseball season they especially don't do anything special.  It don't matter who's playing, they aren't going to turn the volume up.

I haven't been to Cheerleader's much to know if they do things the same way.

Stubs on Federal Way is the only place I've been able to go into and actually see and hear a game. They have no problem turning up the volume on the screen you're watching.  And the best thing I experienced was this year during the NFL playoffs  one night I ran all over town to find  a place that might have a decent seat.  5 minutes before kick-off Stubs still had plenty of seats, but within 5 minutes after kick-off it was shoulder to shoulder the rest of the night.  Another downside to Stubs though is they like to close by 11pm so don't bet on seeing a Hawaii game.

I have a great idea and location in mind for a new family friendly sports bar in boise.  I really would like the opportunity to make it happen.  I just need the capital to get it started.  Keep it in your thoughts.

Wesin,

I haven't been to the new Cheerleaders yet, but the old one was the only place I would go to watch an NFL game.  Being a Buffalo Bills fan in Boise does have it's drawbacks.  Finding a place where you can actually watch and HEAR the game is difficult.  The old Cheerleaders was really cool and if you went early enough (about 20 min before the morning gametime) then you could get a booth with a monitor and sound.  I always watched the game on the big screen (not the biggest one since it was always on the Packers) and listened to the game on the small monitor.

I hear the new one is nicer with better monitors, but I expect the traffic to be much heavier since it is in Meridian.  I swear Meridian is about 1 resturaunt to every 100k people!  Either that or EVERYONE eats out ALL THE TIME!  I hate going to any resturaunt in Meridian because they are always packed......which reminds me.....

I'm sick and tired of all the crowded places to eat in Meridian!!!  And don't get me started on the traffic in that little po dunk town!  You would think they would improve the infrastructure at least once in a while!  I swear most of the roads in that town are EXACTLY the same as they were in the 80's when I was a kid!

In 1988, Meridian was a "Bedroom Community" to Boise.

in 2008, Meridian is the "Bathroom Community" to Boise!!!

Ah but Slacker, rules are look but no touch.  Who am I kidding, if she even caught me talking to a woman she'd kick my arse.  I get caught looking over at a woman and I get smacked in the back of the head.  Anyone want my man card, cause I'm sure I just lost it.

Keep your man card rebel.  Any guy who is married understands.  The trick is to wear her down over time.

I actually ate at the Meridian Cheerleader's on Sunday and for a Sunday afternoon, it was pretty empty.  There were maybe three families in there, about 10 people.  There are a bunch of large screen tvs around the walls (couldn't hear them) and each booth has its own touch screen tv where you can choose the channel and adjust the volume, I believe there were about 12 channels to choose from.  Unfortunately the food was not so good (very salty) and the perfect blonde cheerleader stereotype was the server and she loved to invade your space and try to make conversation about random stuff.  It was ok but I probably wouldn't go back, just better choices around.

The Cheerleaders in Eagle was the same.  Not very many people (lunchtime).  The food was average.  But loved the TV screen at your booth.

I have learned that one.....  " Baby, look... That womans t*ts are almost hanging out, she needs to go put some clothes on."  Problem is, the first time I said it, I pointed out the t*ts first.......  Should have been....." Baby that girl needs to go put some clothes on, her t*ts are getting ready to fall out.

That won't work if you are still looking at "the hooch" 15 minutes later or doing a search on said "hooch" to find more revealing (I mean more conservative) pictures.

The cheerleaders in Eagle was great because it was pretty quiet even on football Sunday.  Once in a while the Packer nuts would show up, but only when they weren't on local tv (almost every weekend last season!).

As for the food, you have to know what to order.  I'm not a fan of shoestring fries, but their buffalo chips are spicy and good.  The Shroom burger is pretty good as well.  That being said most of the food isn't that great.  I would go elsewhere in a heartbeat if there was good food to be had as well as a game you could watch and hear at the same time.

Since I only go out to watch the games I can't watch at home (would rather be around buddies I know in the comfort of my own home watching my 62" HDTV), the Bills games are the only ones I'm concerned with.  I'm sure Boise State games would be played on every screen with the sound up in most sportsbars.

I'm considering investing in NFL ticket again.  They used to let me get it without signing up for any other services, but they put the kibosh on that a couple years ago.  I haven't wanted to spring for the purchase of a hdtv dvr (cable rents me one instead) but I may have to make the leap this season because of the twins and their lack of patience with dad's tv veiwing.

Of course that may mean I may not get the BSU v BYU away games in a few years.  What's a guy to do?

Rebel...   And the disparaging comments only work the first couple of times!!!   After that the Mrs was like, "you're only saying that so you can look longer".   LOL.

Cran...  Guess I should have done the buffalo chips.  I love those things, and the spicier the better.  The shoestring fries were not very good.
