AM GOLD!

NEXT LYRICS: This song is from what is IMHO a successful attempt by this artist to make an album of music that was important and personal to HIM and he didn't care that it was  a very narrow demograophic that it would appeal to for commercial success, a trait that I find very admirable in the artists suscessful and ambitious enough to risk losing their fan base for artstic enthusiasm.

It was midnight, midnight at noon
Everyone talked in rhyme
Everyone saw the big clock ticking
Nobody knew, nobody knew the time

Elegant debutantes smiled
Everyone fought for dimes
Newspapers screamed for blood
It was the best of times

Every place around the world it seemed the same
Can't hear the rhythm for the drums
Everybody wants to look the other way
When something wicked this way comes

Now and then I go down the view message board and get into some of the threads, I can't believe how stupid and juvenile this stuff is. But why should I be surprised - since the ESPN-ization of TV, sports (and other venues) tries to focus its market to the young dysfunctional male demographic. That's what sells and you can't fight that.
The music threads seem to be the only place where we can exchange views without the putdowns. We bust chops, but that's all in fun. We can take it, even Fans lol.
Clean, I'll lurk around on the message boards, and sometimes I'm mildly entertained, but I rarely join in the fray, it's a fruitless endeavour.

I'll just stick to the music threads, we have fun, learn about different music, and as an added bonus, are rarely beset by trolls.

As a side note, at 42, I'm probably the youngest one who posts on these threads on a regular basis*, which most likely explains a lot.

*Well, "regular basis" when I don't disappear for months...

Jeremiah Blues - Sting.

I ain't got a nickel and I ain't got a lousy dime
She don't come back think I'm going to ose my mind
If she ever gets back to stay, Its going to be a brand new day

I'm really glad you brought that up, Fans.
I remember when The Soul Cages came out and I bought it right away and listened to it  but wasn't initially drawn to it.
It was years later when I first read that the entire album was dedicated to Sting losing his father.
So of course I went back and listened to the songs - with the lyrics in front of me - and really got what Sting was singing about.
I was surprised that I hadn't made that connection already myself because I always gravitate more toward the lyrics than the music.
In my defense, we had 2 kids - both under 3 years old when this album came out. And a third kid born a couple of years later.
So I missed out on some good music for awhile - instead watching Barney or The Lion King for the hundreth time!

Now and then I go down the view message board and get into some of the threads, I can't believe how stupid and juvenile this stuff is. But why should I be surprised - since the ESPN-ization of TV, sports (and other venues) tries to focus its market to the young dysfunctional male demographic. I have ventured in there on rare occasions myself, clean.
And you are right. About 95 percent of those threads are littered with at least a couple of idiots who seem to have nothing better to do with their time except bring personal attacks to a message board. Makes it almost impossible to have an intelligent discussion about anything.
But you guys are great!
Even that "youngster" mj!

How's it goin' Slip?

Hey Rhino, super busy but, everything is going well.

In fantasy football I was behind 39 - 35 going into the Sunday night game.

BUT, I have Baltimore's Defence,   24 pts !     Woohooooooooo !!!

I now have about a 20 pt lead. He has Blount and I have Mike Williams tonight.

I am feeling pretty confident ... almost cocky.

He was 3-0 (only 1 in the league undefeated, so far). I am 2-1 and should be tied with him for the league lead after tonight.

Plus, I have the all surgery team too ( Jamal Charles - IR, Kenny Britt - IR, Miles Austin - Out with bad Hammy, Mike Vick - 1 hit away from IR at any given moment).

How about yourself ? What are you up to these days ?

take care,
slip

Bullet The Blue Sky - U2

She tells her side
Nothing to hide
Now the world will know
Just what the blues is all about
The blues aint nothin' but a pain in your heart
When you get a bad start
When you and your man have to part
I aint gonna just
Sit around and cry
And now I know I wont die
Because I love him

Lady Sings The Blues - Billie Holiday

I had a fun day at the newspaper today. I got to do as phone interview with DJ Jerry Blavat, known as the Geator Wti the Heater, the Boss With the Hot Sauce. He's speaking at one of our libraries. He's a legend in the South Jersey/Philly scene. Any of you guys familiar with him?

So if you want it to be real good to ya
When I'm layin' here makin' love to ya
A listen real close to me baby

For the record, not all of us on the other threads are bad. I'm trying to bring a kinder gentler mood to those threads. And MJ is older than my older sister.

You're right Trav, but the rabble-rousers far outnumber the rational posters.

You are a tremendously good sport, you take a lot of flack(sp?) from everyone, and yet you remain unfazed.  I'm glad that you take the homophobic views of some posters and have fun with it, that, IMO, is what makes one a real man.

And thanks for the jab about my age.   For the record, I still have all my hair, and none of it is grey, and I still wear the same belt that was given to me on my 17th birthday, yep, 42 and still have a 32" waist.   Hehehe...

Well MJ, I DO have plenty of grey and I've jumped slightly to a 34 waist. And I appreciate the nod from you. The gay bashing of me is due to my old unicorn avatar and my liberal beliefs. The reason I don't mind the bashing is that I don't consider being called gay an insult. I'm straight but I don't need them to be sure. The important people in my life know who I am. I do get my feelings ruffled at times. Most recently by Fans actually. He didn't mean harm but his ribbing upset me. Funny how a bunch of a holes don't bother me but a nice guy like Fans hurts my feelings. Maybe it's because I respect his opinion and consider him an e friend. Happy lyricing MJ!!!

Yer Blues - The Beatles. We're dejavuing a little here so that might mean a topic change may come soon. Sometimes when I make a remark on other threads, my username gets the usualy "hey, maybe you fell off the wagon" or somethjing to that effect. I also think there are people who make real neanderthal comments just to get a rise out of people. Thye really don;t believe what they say. i think politicvl radio talk show hosts do the same - the shock effect.

I think this next one is an extended version of a song that had blues in the original title.

Now next Friday come I didn't get the rent
Out the door I went

One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer - George Thorogood

Clean, I couldn't find anything with blue in the title relating to those lyrics.  Thorogood's cover of this song is a medley of House Rent Boogie and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,  both previously recorded by John Lee Hooker.

I just looked back, we've had the blues for 8 pages now, perhaps it is time for a change.  My creative jucies are not flowing currently, so I'll post another blue song.  Who's got next?

Ain't got no regrets
And I ain't losin' track
Of which way I'm going
Ain't gonna double back

Midnight Blue - Foreigner. Yeah we gotta change I used that once too. OK, I'll propose a change to things dealing with electricty. Words like electric, electricity, electrical, lighting, wire, shock, plugged and maybe appliances. If you want to tweak it or offer other suggestions, fine,

Down in the street there is violence
And a lot of work to be done
No place to hang out our washing
And I can't blame all on the sun, oh no

Smokestack Lightning - Howlin' Wolf

I agree with mj - good theme change clean!

And clean makes a real good point.
I have to believe that a lot of the posters on message boards aren't really like that in real life.
They have the safety of being anonymous and hiding behind a keyboard and are usually just starving for attention....any attention.
